My father-in-law was an accomplished photographer. After his early retirement 
from his real job he for many years was the photographer for our local 
performing arts center (promo posters, etc.), he also did portraits, shots for 
musicians’ album covers, etc. He did one year-long series of shots from the 
house, looking across/down the river, capturing the seasonal changes; those 
were used by the City for their annual wall calendar that they distribute to 
every household.  He used Nikon, Hasselblad, and Leica gear. I have his M-2 
with a couple of nice looking lenses. When it came to me in 2010 I spent $xxx 
to repair the shutter curtain and a general clean/adjust. But lost my 
enthusiasm for playing with film and it has sat on the shelf since.

Meg has a D-Lux-2 and a newer D-Lux (Type 109), and she mostly uses those 
despite my periodic suggestion that she should use one of my Pentax cameras. 
When we first met she was using a Spotmatic, later moved to an ME Super so that 
we could share our limited set of lenses. But the smaller Leica’s just seem to 
be her preference.

It is not unusual for us, when traveling, to stand side by side taking similar 
pictures of a scene. After we are back home I load everything into Lightroom 
and sort by TimeTaken and click through a preliminary selection. The technical 
quality of my K-5, K-3, and now K-1 shots is always better than her shots with 
a D-Lux, particularly in lower light settings. But we are not losing much if I 
select one of her’s because of a slightly different framing or other 
compositional detail. In the Blurb books I have put together, I can’t imagine 
anybody being able to differentiate which shots are her’s with the Leica and 
which are mine with a Pentax. Maybe based on style, but not based on image 
quality anyway.

that easy to shift ones view from rangefinder to viewfinder.  Quick 
focus and compose in my memory problematic.   I find it a lot easier to 
shift from the focus window to viewfinder window on the Kodak Medalist, 
who's ergonomics could best be described as; "Ergonomics, what's that?"

A friend down the road recently sold his mint M3 with 3 lenses to a 
collector in Cape Town who then sent his own Courier to fetch it.

Because it's nice looking.  Even though the viewfinder and rangefinder 
windows are too far apart, and the film winder is a pita to use and it 
doesn't feel all that great in the hand, it looks nice...

I did actually shoot a couple of frames to make sure it worked, but I don’t 
think even the magic red dot could make a photograph of my living room be all 
that special.

On the subject of gripes, I briefly owned an FZ-50, which when it was stolen I 
replaced it with the K-100.  The FZ-50 had a wonderful user interface, handling 
more like an SLR than a point and shoot, but with the nifty features of the 
electronic viewfinder (like a live histogram).  After the FZ-50 they went back 
to the clunky PoS interface, and this being a tarted up FZ-200 suffers from 
that.

I would ask when we could hope to see your photographs improve,
but as a Leica owner you probably wouldn't deign to talk to
those of us who only use other brands.

Somewhere I have a Leica IIIc, it was given to me by a non photographer 
friend on semi permanent loan.


I have two lenses for it, the collapsible 50mm and a Canon 35mm.

I found the camera to be ergonomically inferior to the Kodak Retna IIc, 
it's only actual advantage being that it's easier to interchange lenses.


I think I may have shot two whole rolls of film through the thing before 
the shutter jammed.


It's not a particularly special camera from a collectors viewpoint, 
except it being a Leica, nor does it seem to be particularly desirable 
to use, so it's basically economically irreparable.


If I ever find where I stored it I'll probably put it on a shelf for 
display.


By the way having owned a Leica doesn't make you a member of an elite 
group except in your own mind.  Just don't tell that to your dentist.

I inherited my father-in-law's Leica III (and his Speed Graphics 3 ¼ X 4
¼).  I used both for a few years before the digital era, but my Pentax 6X7
was a lot easier to use and gave comparable results.   I sold the Leica
several years ago, when I first started cleaning up and consolidating.
Anyone interested in the Speed Graphics?

OT I briefly owned a Leica

So, I briefly owned a Leica, for Panasonic values of Leica.

I saw a friend last weekend who asked if I was interested in a broken Leica.  
My first thought was that it was some old film era Leica that no longer worked,
