Wow! At least I know it was a honest auction. I have bought a couple of
nice machines from the seller. I live 30 minutes from him and picked them
up. He allowed me to see some of his other machines and big radio
collection. his items are always very nice and they bring better than
average prices.

I also followed this auction. I made a couple of posts in another forum on this
topic. I can't believe how high this went. I can't sell a Standard for $300.00.
Go figure. That seller must be laughing all the way to the bank. For that kind
of money, you can get an Edison Opera.or a Victor VI.
More than that. At the CAPS show last August, Vic VIs were selling (or not
selling) for $4700.

Something I have observed about those eBay masked user IDs. The same
person will show up with a different mask if you access eBay from a
different computer OR operating system running in a VM. They are not
static.

I have been watching Firebottles auctions for 3 years. The seller's machines
all have the same identical finish and luster on them. In my opinion, he
resprays them. His auctions always bring values which are way our of line and
the bidding historys have a pattern of the same person upping their

I also have an interest in early radios and you will hear the same thing
over in radio land. But, his auctions are all well photographed and the
descriptions are very well written. Maybe he is just very good at
proving P.T. Barnum was right.

I have dealt with hundreds of Edison Phonographs since 1973. I have pulled
them out of many places in all types of condition and circumstances. I have had
some which were factory defects and as a result were never used. NONE of them

I think that the detailed description is one of the keys to successful
selling on e-bay. I have never had the knack of doing that.
There is a guy that used to live in California, then moved to Florida by the
name of Joe Urbonovitch who restored mostly radios. He did a few phonos as
well. He

Yes, that gets back to my original question. A well-written description
with good photos -- and these looked professional, like you would see in a
magazine -- are essential to command higher prices.

I'm talking about an honest description. This guy didn't hide anything.
Full disclosure. Everything was fairly and honestly represented.
