Aha, I'm using PHP 4.1.2 with trans-sid enabled for browsers that don't
use cookies.
Now that I know where to look, I found that putting ob_start() at the
beginning seems to help.

logged in and open a 2nd browser and try to log in. This where the script I
use to detect exisitng session and destroy it before generating a new one.
