Re: [Phptest-users] To all who want to support phptest read this

2006-01-01 Thread Martin Snell
I agree with Donna. I have used phpTest for some 2-3 years now and think
I might have rejected Moodle at the time in favour of phptest. I just
needed (and still need) a fairly straightforward on-line test facility,
and not a whole teaching environment. I much prefer software to be
small, modular and adaptable rather than overgrown and bloated. Phptest
fitted that bill and I would like to keep using it for as long as possible.

hey thanks for the suggestions.. it almost makes working on phptest
pointless. anyway im looking at moodle.. i would love to use it but i
have 4000 questions arleady in phptest or sql.. do you know of an

If you could figure out
how the questions are setup in the sql for phptest you could possibly convert
them using a script to the setup moodle uses. This however would be some
work. I'd suggest backing up your database (look up mysqldump) then
playing with moodle making a few questions and dump that database as well.
Compare the databases in a text editor such as pico (unix/linux/bsd), evolded
(windows) http://www.home.no/evolved/index.html
or even notepad :(

Look for the questions, compare how they're
setup...
If you can, script a way to transform
'em.

I still prefer the simplicity of phptest,
but that's me. *shrug*Nowadays everyone wants something that does
everything.
I always consider that
bloatedness.
Hell I remember when I looked at windows xp
at first, I thought it was the most bloated memory wasting piece of shit OS
anyone could dream up. Now I accept it to game with. That doesn't mean I like it
however. I still run a customized freebsd install for all my servers. And I hung
on to windows 98sp2 until it was useless for gaming.
In any event moodle does have some nice
points to it.

Oh, and your welcome.

[Phptest-users] To all who want to support phptest read this

2005-12-22 Thread JST
Well as it seems phptest is no longer an active project. I havent seen it even supported in a long time. I have invested way too much time and money into phptest to let it die. Last week I asked if I were to start supporting it with the little knowledge i have would anyone join me? Well i am going to do it. I will be sending around a new private mailing list invitation to  everyone  that said they were interested in  helping  me  with continuing support. You will see a  email  from [EMAIL PROTECTED]  inviting  you to to be apart of the new phptest support team. There we can discuss exactly what we can all do. I have a lot of ideas and once i see everyone has signed up i will send out an email to the list. I think we can make this a more powerful script than ever. If Brandon Tallent sees this email and you object please email me. If you are ok with this please send me anything you think that could help us in the
future. PS Anyone else want to be apart of the team email me..Hope you all have a safe holidayJonathan
