the same source code is maintained in the Kosmo project[1].
Would it be possible to package this too? I suppose packaging should be
straightforward, being essentially the same as OpenJump.

Apparently OGR's shapefile driver for reading polgyon rings and correctly
assigning them as inner, or outer rings and for which component of a
multipolygon for some complex polygon files is
of the Debian Med project has drastically
improved Debian's relevance for the use in medical care and science.
I think a GIS matapackage is quite difficult: desktop GIS and web mapping, for
instance, have a quite different set of packages needed.
