Small transition: soundtouch 1.5

2011-02-16 Thread Alessio Treglia
Hi all,

I've planned to move the new soundtouch 1.5 release from experimental
to sid within the new few days.
Here is a short list of binary packages [1] which will be affected by
the transition:

gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
ihu
libsoundtouch-ocaml
liquidsoap
rezound
yatm

Some of them may need a bit of work to build fine, then when
rebuilding your packages please keep in mind what follows:

 * libBPM.so was removed: Don't link against such shlib, the
-lSoundTouch flag does the job.
 * Development package renamed: libsoundtouch1-dev changed to
libsoundtouch0-dev, which Provides the virtual 'libsoundtouch-dev'
though.
 * The pkg-config soundtouch-1.0.pc file was obsolete and it is no
longer provided, rely on the new soundtouch.pc instead.

If you need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact the Debian
Multimedia Maintaintaners
pkg-multimedia-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org.

Regards.

[1] The packages maintained by the DMM team are omitted.

Re: More info

2011-02-16 Thread Adrian Knoth
On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 08:10:52AM -0800, Dave Beckett wrote:

Hi!

Finally solved it:

The desc should never be NULL since it's running through a list from raptor,
and the final one is to get the default parser. The only way this can
happen is if raptor wasn't initialised properly, which is my guess here. I
suspect ardour is linking to raptor1 and raptor2, and thus crashing.

Absolutely. For the sake of documentation, I'm going to elaborate on
this here, so it's saved in the bug for future reference.

The situation is as follows:

   - ardour depends on liblrdf (mind the l after lib)
- liblrdf depends on libraptor1

   - ardour depends on libslv2
- libslv2 depends on librdf0 (no l this time)
  - librdf0 (= 1.0.13-1) depends on libraptor2

And there you have it, clashing symbols.

The solution is to add symbol versioning to both raptor libraries, then
recompile librdf, liblrdf and afterwards libslv2 (the whole dependency
chain backwards). In the end, recompile ardour.

For libslv2, we need to explicitly link against libraptor2, so the
symbols will be referenced with versions.

Symbol versioning for libraptor1 and libraptor2 is easy to achive,
simply add

   LDFLAGS += -Wl,--default-symver

to debian/rules in each package. I'll file separate bug reports against
those libs for documentation purpose.

See how then all depending libs require the versioned symbol:

Before:
adi@hex:~$ objdump -T /usr/lib/liblrdf.so.0 | grep raptor
  DF *UND* raptor_free_parser
  DF *UND* raptor_print_locator
  DF *UND* raptor_parse_abort
[..]

After:
adi@hex:~$ objdump -T /usr/lib/liblrdf.so.0 | grep raptor
  DF *UND* libraptor.so.1 raptor_free_parser
  DF *UND* libraptor.so.1 raptor_finish
  DF *UND* libraptor.so.1 raptor_parse_abort

Cheers

Bug#613675: liblrdf: Please recompile against versioned libraptor1

2011-02-16 Thread Adrian Knoth
Package: liblrdf
Version: 0.4.0-3
Severity: important

Hi!

liblrdf is in the dependency chain of ardour which fails to start right now
due to clashing symbols in libraptor1 and libraptor2.

As soon as #613671 is fixed, please recompile liblrdf, maybe explicitly
depending on this new libraptor1 Debian version.

TIA

Package: slv2

Hi!

When #613673 is fixed, please recompile against the new librdf0, maybe
explicitly depending on the new Debian version.

Though only included indirectly, we'll need to link against libraptor2
explicitly to get the versioned symbols. The patch addresses this issue.

I had your recent comments in mind, I have license in header section and
also represented in a body section for debian/* files and for * all files

 Oh, I didn't notice that.

It is perfectly legal (with newest drafts only!) to put a generic wildcard
Files section below a more specific one, but I recommend against it for
stylistic reason: I personally find it easier to read if sorting with least
specific sections first (with the exception of putting debian/* and then
more specific ones below that at the very end).

For me is bit natural to put more specific section first ... so I will
keep it like it is if it is legal.

But that is nitpicking.  Sorry I missed your general wildcard.
