Well for starters when printing with lpr you may need to specify the 'queue' name to print to. HP uses raw, raw1, raw2, raw3, text, text1, text2, text3, TEXT, TEXT1, TEXT2, TEXT3, RAW, RAW1, RAW2 RAW3, auto, auto1, auto2, auto3 binps and d1prn depending on the model and the interface. Don't know

If at least one of the old or new drives is WD or Seagate you can download free software from the respective manufacturer to do disk cloning (and backups as well as many other drive-related tasks). They are OEM-ified Acronis True Image. I've had no trouble using either package, including cloning
