I've also had mostly good luck with Century Link. I had issues with their
corporate people, but my local office (I'm in Vancouver) took care of me no
problem. I found it much quicker and easier to get things taken care of and
fixed by going into the office in person. I've never had a wait there
I doubt the battery power they supply is the significant reason they
want to turn off twisted pair analog phone service. There are other
issues at work. See "PSTN Sunset" on google, also this:

Not only possible, but likely.

I was recently told you can ask for an $85 "forever"-rate (as
advertised on teevee) too. But you have to ask. And it only takes
effect at the start of the next month.

Ali,
Fwiw, when we lose power at our house in NE portland, the T-Mobile
towers all lose power too and I don't have any cell coverage without
driving out of the neighborhood to a working tower. I don't know if
this applies to other carriers, but it has been my consistent
experience here.

Tried it. No response. Not sure how I got back to a functioning terminal,
but now:

Looks like we're paying the same amount when the promo period runs out, you
just got a much longer promo period than I did. Mine was only 6 months.
That's a hell of a lot of cost savings over 1.5 years. Jealous!

I also have Centurylink fiber and I'm pretty happy with it. I have heard
that their customer service isn't good, but since I switched I've only
needed to call them once to upgrade to gigabit, so I haven't needed much
from them.Overall I am happier with them than I was with Comcast, which I
guess
