Thanks for the info, I haven't been exposed to MariaDB yet but sounds like

I'm not sure what your exact needs are, but I generally prefer to use
tcpdump for capturing (cli tool) and wireshark when I need more a advanced
view of the traffic. You can take the output of tcmpdump and view it in
other tools with the '-w' flag. Related but not really a network sniffing
tool,

a triple boot using rEFIt of OS X, Fedora and Win7 which worked
pretty well. The decision I ended up making was to just use 1 desktop and
all the xbox and vmware fusion vms I use are cli/ssh only.

These should actually already be included w/ virtualbox. There's a menu item
for each vm that says install guest additions which puts a virtual disc into
the vm to install it w/o going to the website
