For UK listeners the BBC send live streams in Flash/AAC, Flash/MP3, WMA and RealAudio. To play a stream with no transcoding on an SB1 player you need to use the Flash/MP3 stream as SB1 cannot play any of the other formats. Flash/MP3 is MP3 audio format but wrapped in a Flash protocol (RTMP)

MP3 streams are not available for live radio, only for listen again in the UK. Hence with AAC not selected you will get wma streams. These will only be playable on a SB2 or later device. On your SB1 you should be able to playback listen again streams in flash/mp3 - try one of these rather than

Use BBCiPlayer as BBC are stopping RealAudio in March 2010. Are you in the UK ? What sort of player are you using ? If you are on SSOTS and using an older player (i.e. not SB Radio or Squeezeplay) - make sure SSOTS has the faad and flac that have been built with the patches that come with SBS.

That SOMAfm stream is 48k - the BBC streams are typically 128k for UK listeners so your system may mot be able to handle transcoding the higher speed better quality Flash / AAC. You didn't say what sort of player you but assuming you do not have an SB1 or older, then you could try disabling
