[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC 1.04 on 6.3 problems

2006-06-30 Thread bpa

Podcast are in MP3 so it is not the same as the Listen Again which are
in RealAudio.

If Listen Again (not Podcast) play OK but live program show problems
then it is likely to be a network problem.

Some people have complained about gaps in live streams and blamed it on
additional network traffic due to World Cup.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC 1.04 on 6.3 problems

2006-06-30 Thread bpa

Most of the log is normal except for one Event starting message. All the
Blocking message are normnal and the Buffering message is a display
bug.

Run the mplayer test bat file that ran on installation.

Start listening to one of the live stations. If it plays ok on your PC
then the problem is probably to do with SlimServer / Mplayer / AlienBBC.

If you hear gaps or mplayer stops when running the test bat file - then
the problem is the network, your ISP or your network connection.

Let the test run for a bit of time say 10-20 mins as network errors are
unpredictable - also mid afternoon on Friday is not a busy time.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Skipping forwards and backwards with BBC iPod Streams

2006-06-30 Thread Kaizen28

Hi

When using the AlienBBC plugin to listen to the BBC Podcasts, is it
possible to skip forward and backwards?

Sometime when I hold down FFWD on the remote the time will increment
forward but it does not skip ahead in the stream I'm listening to.

I notice from the web front end that it appears to be possible to skip
forwards or backwards in predefined incriments but does this actually
work from the SqueezeBox remote?

Thanks again.

Running:
SqueezeBox 3
Slimserver: 6.3.0 Build 8148
AlienBBC 1.04
OS Windows XP SP2

BBC Podcasts are in MP3 format and AFAIK skipping /backward is not
possible as they are a stream.

You can skip forward/back with the Listen Again programs as they are
in RealAudio format and the BBC server will restart the stream a bit
forward/backward on request - Slimserver can do this using the remote
or web interface. However in 6.3 you must be in the AlienBBC menu for
the fwd/rew button to be active.

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply! I guess the simplest way to solve this is
to install iTunes and stream from my PC rather than over the 'Net. ;-)

Why bother - AFAICT all the podcast are available as Listen Again in
RealAudio format you'll find them through the AlienBBC menu usually off
the Radio Station menu.

Alterntaively if you do download the podcast - let slimserver stream it
then it can go back/forward.

Ah well this is something I'm still struggling with. But let me do
some reading and research before positing anything to the forum.

Thanks!

Slimupdate is broken (again). The update .cgi script on your site points

This directory doesn't exist anymore or isn't being created anymore. It

Could this be changed in your cgi script?

http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/SlimServer_6_3_x_v2006-06-30/

There haven't been any builds since the release of 6.3 :-/. I updated the
script (after all, that's what I created for: update a script on the
server instead of releaseing a new SlimCD build...).

This directory doesn't exist anymore or isn't being created anymore. It
is now called: nightly/SlimServer_v2006-06-30/

This is the 6.5 build - which won't work on SlimCD and still is considered
experimental.

Fixed it. Thanks for the feedback.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC causes Slimserver to stop

2006-06-30 Thread bpa

This sounds like an installation problem.

What version of AlienBBC are you using ?
Did you have AlienBBC installed before you upgraded to Slimserver 6.3
?
How did you install AlienBBC - zip or exe ?
What is the name of the file you downloaded ?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC causes Slimserver to stop

2006-06-30 Thread cunninr2

problem solved.

I used the AlienBBC-v1.03_6.2.exe installation pack. After checking on
your question I noticed a later release manual download.
I unzipped alienbbc-windows-v1.04_6.2-3 and manually copied the files
to the plugin directory are. Now working. I noticed to files were added
to C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server directory which were'nt there
before

slimserver-convert.conf
custom-types.conf

There must be a problem with AlienBBC-v1.03_6.2.exe install pack

Thanks for the help.

An alternative way to access XM radio if you don't mind giving your
e-mail and password to a 3rd party. I think this service was set up
for PDAs.

Code:

  http://www.xstreamxm.com/mobile/[EMAIL
PROTECTED]pass=yourpasswordchan=channumspeed=high

Be sure to enter your email address, password, and channel # in the
URL*

Bryan,

Have you used this service? Just curious if you can see the song titles
on the SB if you enter the appropriate URL into the Radio Tune-In box.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - Error: Can't open remote URL

2006-06-30 Thread Jeremy Morgan

After owning a Squeezebox for a couple of days now I have most things
working OK except for the BBC radio.

I am using SlimServer 6.5b1-8224 AlienBBC 1.04 plugin.

Whenever I try to play a BBC stream (live or archive) I get an error
message such as:

Error: can't open remote URL
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/realmedia/fmg2.rpm;

This is the same whether I try to run from the Squeezebox or from the
SlimServer web interface.

The BBC streams play OK when performing the 'mplayer' test.

I have tried all the suggestions on the forums:

* Tried different versions of SlimServer AlienBBC - manual
automatic install of the latter.
* Increased network timeout to 15s.
* Used Ian Cook's modified socketwrapper

I've run out of ideasany suggestions?

Thanks.

No I haven't used it but I believe you don't get song titles.

It is being used by Roku users who are envious of the XM Plugin.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC - radio stations interrupted by web page access

2006-06-30 Thread SadGamerGeek

An update

Well I took the opportunity to do a complete re-install of Linux Fedora
FC5 (I wasn't happy with a few things from the first install), and also
to double the RAM to 512MB. I'm still running it as cut-down as
possible, with no X-Windows.

I then jumped straight into an install of the latest (8199 - 29/06) 6.5
beta, which went in with no problems.

The good news is that things definately seem better - Most of the time
selecting Albums or Artists on the web page doesn't interrupt a
radio station now. Unfortunately All Songs does cause the Squeezbox
to freeze, but for a shorter time than before

Top indicates these freezes/silences are still related to the CPU
maxing out.

I can't help thinking that if the output could be returned to the web
page a bit quicker the Squeezebox wouldn't exhaust its cache. I was
hoping that the 512MB of memory I now have would ensure my database
(for just 6,000 songs) could reside in memory give super-fast access.
Unfortunately this cannot be the case.

Is there any way I can persuade MySQL to make better use of memory? Any
other suggestions gratefuly received. Could it be worth raising a bug
for this maybe?

Cheers,

Richard

How big a freeze do you get?

If you start the server from the command line with --perfwarn=0.5 what
does it show?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Announce: XM Radio Plugin 1.0 (with Skins)

2006-06-30 Thread GeeZa

Just a quick update on my request for help with the XM plugin on 6.3 and
OSX. If I copy and paste the XM mms:// url into 'Radio Tune In' I can
play all my XM stations. But I cannot start them by browsing either via
the SB3, the browser or Softsqueeze. Also whilst I can see track titles
and artists in the XML output from debug mode, I just get the station
name displayed on the SB3. Actually scratch that, the station I've just
tuned into (65) has just given me track and artist details. :-) Maybe it
sometimes works, sometimes not, weirdy. Very impressed though that it
kinda works so far.

I'm using the default skin and have AlienBBC, LastFM and SlimScrobbler
installed too.

I installed AlienBBC, and mpplayer on my Ubuntu (breezy) box. mplayer

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: can't get AlienBBC to work with slimserver 6.3

2006-06-30 Thread igi

well, installed version 1.04 and after a few restarts it works.

The sound of some stations is really garbled though, is this common?

I have another question, is there a way I can add a custom radio
station? (wbo.org). Someone suggested using alienBBC because using the
server tune option doesn't work

Thanks,
