Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.5.2 beta test

2016-12-07 Thread mrmichaelwright

Hi bpa

The loss of other services seemed to happen 2 or 3 times a day. It
doesn't occur alongside anything else obvious but I do work almost
entirely off dropbox dealing with large CAD and video files. My theory
is that the DNS demands on the homehub are too high, hence the change of
router.

A quick look at the log shows that the mysqueezebox.com error occurs
about 8-10 times a day, including at just after midnight last night when
other network traffic will have been very low.

My server is configured with a static IP.

I've upped the delay time in iplayer to 3 min and will see how that
goes. Most of the time the long chunk fetch times add up to about 1
minute in total before a re-buffer occurs, maybe this is making the
cache 'catch up' with the encoding problems that you have identified
with systems like mine.

Why two servers ?

You can just instal Squeezelite standalone on the Mac , wonder if not
Ralph or someone has a recent Mac build .

You may have to autostart in some way after install .

Has both servers local player ? Can see which one is which when you
select and what server they are currently conected to .

>From which server are you sending the music ? The filetype settings and
player audio settings for the sending server is what's important. It can
be somewhat confusing as the same player can have different settings
depending on the used server .

I tried to replicate what you described. I put my PC to sleep, woke it
up, and left Squeeze Ctrl minimized for a couple of hours with a few
other apps running and nothing. No lockups.

Here's a video of the test, after the ~2 hour wait:
https://youtu.be/CNZgNk5xPiM

Granted, this was done with an upcoming updated version, but I don't
think I changed anything that would affect suspending or resuming the
app.

To make sure the test is as close to what the user would experience,
this was done with a release build not a debug one and it was installed
thru the Windows App Store using a beta channel I created for myself.

I have no idea why minimizing the app would lock up Explorer on your
computer. Maybe you're low on RAM? Or maybe you have a different version
of Win 10? I'm using the anniversary update. I don't remember if I had
to do a clean reinstall of Win 10 after I updated from Win 8.1, but that
may also be a reason?

How much RAM do you have?

kidstypike wrote:

As mentioned in a previous post, the next update should fix one possible
cause of the launch crash. However, I suspect that there are more
possible causes for that crash and some extra crash logging in the
update should help me identify them.

I think LMS does a backoff approach to retries with each failed attempt
it waits a bit longer. IIRC First backoff is 60 sec which means there

AFAICT This is not a WIndows 10 BBCiPlayer plugin issue - all the errors
show no response from BBC to request for audio but in the middle of the
iPlayer errors is the error.

This indicates it is not an BBCiPlayer issue but a general LMS issue and
more likely a system issue.

Hi,

i dont know what System are you using and how its connected.

What linux is using a file called /etc/default/default ?
A MAC with all zeros is a typical sign of a failed arp.

The reason is found somewhere in your setup - a failed nic driver, a bad
try from som mac spoofing and and and.

The best solution is to find the failure - not spoof another mac address
for the squeezelite session.

- Do you see some 00:00:00:00:00:00 in your network?
- Even when squeezelite is powered off and just the rpi?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] squeezelite on raspberrypi=>zero mac address for multiple players=>server screws up

2016-12-07 Thread david.udin

I installed a second raspberry pi with squeezelite over wifi into my
home network with both pi-based and squeezebox/touch elements. It seems
that these pi-based clients report an all-zero mac address (or nothing)
and the server registers zeros. This leads to the server conflating the
two clients--first one in gets its ip address to the server, but the
hostnames kind of oscillate back and forth for the single client entry
in the server information, and both devices will initiate enough traffic
with the server to bollix up playback on the device whose ip address got
in first. The second player can't actually be activated to play
something, but it's causing trouble for the first.

Why the server ends up with a zero mac address I cannot say. It might
have something to do with the raspberry pi, the wifi, squeezelite on the
raspberry pi, whatever.

Workaround. Go into /etc/default/default and add the line:
SB_EXTRA_ARGS="-m 01:02:03:04:05:06" or any other number for a mac
address as long as its different for each player. Then it works.

Fix: ? dunno if it's a pi issue reporting a funny mac address to
squeezelite (or to some lower networking layer) and thus to the server,
or squeezelite somehow not getting the number right when it's a wifi
connection. Someone who knows LMS can work backward from where LMS gets
that mac address--did it come from networking software or from something
that squeezelite said to it. If the latter, how is squeezelite getting
the mac address when it's not specified on the command line. Note that
squeezelite running on a linux mint machine gets a correct mac address
in the server table, and doesn't have any playback problems unless it's
synchronized with one of the pi-based players. Then weird stuff
happening to the pi player happens to the mint player, too.

Cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.5.2 beta test

2016-12-07 Thread mrmichaelwright

So I've been at home a bit this week and performance has been mixed.

As i was getting repeated DNS issues I've swapped out my BT homehub for
a better router. I noticed that often when iplayer dropped out i also
lost a load of other internet services like dropbox so there was
something of a wider network problem going on.

Since changing the router I no longer get the problems with other
internet connectivity just with iplayer.

I get the following error before a dropout:

This is with a synced touch and duet playing 6 music. Sometimes it just
re-buffers for a few seconds, sometimes it just gives up altogether.

I guess this is pointing back to the problem being with windows 10
running on an older machine and causing issues

There are two parts to an audio stream.
1. The transport mechanism or protocols - how to endcoded audio data is
delivered from the source
2. The encoding of the audio data - the codec.

For BBC there are multiple transport protocols available - http, DASH,
HLS (for Apple), Flash (RTMP), HDS. These are not audio encoding
formats.

The BBC uses AAC encoding for all the above transports except for http
shoutcast streams which are MP3 except for the HD http stream for R3
which is AAC over http.

So AAC is what you should see when playing BBC DASH & HLS streams except
when you are playing the lesser quality shoutcast.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.5.2 beta test

2016-12-07 Thread rabbit

I have the latest plugins installed and changed my LMS settings (2
screen grabs attached). Both Live and On Demand streams work, but the
stream format shows as AAC not DASH (3rd screen grab). Is this correct?
How will I know when I have the correct stream?

As always, many thanks for your superb support to the Squeezebox
community.

I've got a question: how does the equalizer work and how is it being
set? Can I somehow do this remotely (is there a JSON/RPC API or
something)?

Are you using 32 or 64bit windows? It doesn't freeze on my machine when
minimized, and there's no way for me to know what's wrong unless I can
reproduce it.

Have you tried completely disabling bit defender?

I cannot find a kodi selection for audio output in the max2play control
pages. is this in the max2play pages, or is it within the kodi app
itself?

Thank you

I think my firewall is allowing SC to do anything it wants.

If that's the case, I'll not bother you further.

BTW, I've just had to unfreeze the task bar again cos SC is sitting
there minimized, and it's not just me seeing this issue.

You can connect to a server on the same machine, you just need to follow
the instructions at this link:

http://loopback.codeplex.com/

I don't think Squeeze Remote uses the same type of connection to LMS as
Squeeze Control. Are blocking any outward going connections in your
firewall?

There might also be something strange about the settings on your PC, it
could be something specific to UWP apps.

Hitting disconnect/cancel connect then try connecting again doesn't
help.

No, not allowed to connect to server on same machine as app, I've tried
that.

Servers I'm using are 2 raspberry pi's.

Hit disconnect/cancel connect then try connecting again. Are you trying
to connect to a server on the same machine as the app?

Recap:

Starting Squeeze Control (SC) has *always* taken 2 attempts, 1st attempt
crashes the app, second attempt is fine.

At some point, with SC minimized to the task bar, the task bar freezes,
need to reboot or restart Windows Explorer to unfreeze task bar.

I don't use any other Windows App, so to check if other apps do the same
I downloaded a Weather App and played with that for a while without
problem. I then started SC, and for the first time *ever* it opened at
the first attempt, and appears not to freeze the task bar.

I rebooted the PC, and SC now opens at the first attempt.

However SC is unusable for me because for the last few days, I just get
a spinny with the word connecting... forever. I have 2 LMS server
running and SC won't connect to either, it used to, but not now. I
uninstalled SC rebooted re-installed SC, it won't connect to a server.

Everthing else works fine, SC on my phone and tablet, work fine, all my
players work fine.

I downloaded Squeeze Remote app for PC trial version, and that works
fine.
