Tidal does not show up in my available plugins. Does it have to be

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alternatives to spotify / spotty?

2022-01-27 Thread Julf

I have become addicted to spotify thanks to the great integration into
LMS that spotty provides, but as so many others, I would like to quit
spotify due to the misinformation they provide a platform for - wish
they had stayed a pure music service.

Are there other streaming services, available outside US, with an
equally wide choice of music and decent LMS integration?

I guess the only issue with the osx squeezelite is making it start (and
restart, if it crashes) automatically.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] squeezelite on OSX?

2016-06-14 Thread Julf

Apologies for my bad search skills. I am an extremely happy long-time
user of squeezelite and jivelite on linux, but now I would like to do a
similar setup on the Mac my wife uses. Squeezelite is probably enough
(she can use the LMS web interface for control), but startup of
squeezelite needs to be automatic (or trivially easy - no command line).
While I have no problems with Linux, I am *not* a mac person, so will
probably need hand-holding on dealing with the Mac.

Will do as soon as I get back home, but when I clicked on spotify in the

Hmm, just checking - I can see Spotify in the "my apps" menu on jivelite
on my client machine, but I can't see it on the LMS web interface - is
this the expected behavior?

Unfortunately the spotify app on the player doesn't work either - it

I think you are confusing data rate and sample rate. Lossy perceptual
codecs talk about data rate, lossless (both uncompressed and compressed)
formats are characterized by sample rate (such as 48 kHz) and sample
size (16 bits).

There are some issues with the built-in audio (due to hardware
limitations), but as long as you don't overload the system, any external
USB DAC should provide excellent sound.

Yes, you are right. But it goes to my point that it either works or it
doesn't. If a format can be represented, it will be done so
transparently, or not at all. The "conversion", when done, does not
affect sound quality as such.

Fair enough, but separate FLAC files for each track result in an equally

Thanks! I am already running 7.5.3, what is the latest version of the

Softsqueeze. 1 second sounds like a rather short timeout...

Unfortunately it is behaving OK right now, even with softsqueeze. Could
be related to load on spotify servers. Will test when it starts
misbehaving again.

Great! Much appreciated!

its really an issue from softsqueeze. The case is a player opens a
socket to the helper app and then doesn't send a request over it within
1 second - I believe this to be quite rare for the hardware players.

Right - and there is far too much java to wade through to figure out
why softsqueeze does that. C or python I could handle... :)

Ah, sorry, I thought you were asking about the triode 3rd party plugin,
as this tread is about that plug-in. While the triode plugin seems to
offer much better functionality than the official one, there only
seems to be an i386 version available - because of the squeezeboxplayer
API libraries?

Duh! Boy do I feel stupid...

Works OK now - apart from the fact that it seems to bypass the normal
file format rules and always use native FLAC - and some of my players
are old (antique) squeezeboxes and softsqueezes that can't do FLAC. But
it works great on the touch...

Anyway, many thanks!

2010-12-21 Thread Julf

Just upgraded squeezeboxserver to 7.5.2, but all the problems with the
spotify plugin are still there. As soon as I installed the plugin,
music (from my library) started stuttering. Trying to configure the
plugin results in 404 Not Found:

Looks like installing the plugin somehow causes an extra copy of the

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2010-12-21 Thread Julf

Indeed, installing the plugin moved the port (for the web interface) to
9001, removing the plugin (and rebooting) did not move it back.

So, after removing the plugin, and rebooting, everything
(except the plugin) works again.

lsof -i doesn't show any process using port 9000.

I haven't been able to set the helper app port number because
trying to configure the plugin gives me 404.

I only seem to have one set of processes:

ps ax | grep sq
1001 ?Ssl0:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld
1078 ?S 0:00 /bin/bash /usr/sbin/squeezeboxserver_safe
/usr/sbin/squeezeboxserver --prefsdir /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/prefs

Reinstalling with manual restart - server starts, but music (from
library) stutters very badly (or, rather, only gives occasional
snippets of music), and there are duplicate processes.

I would post the relevant part of the log file from server, but the
forum software seems to think it contains image links and doesn't allow
me to post it.

Plugin helper app log empty.

Hmm...

# file spotifyd
spotifyd:ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1

But...

# uname -a
Linux bigbox 2.6.32-21-server #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 09:17:34 UTC

So the spotifyd binary is 32-bit, my server is 64-bit...

Is there a 64-bit version of spotifyd?

But not sure that explains why it causes the duplicate processes...
