Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Recording internet radio

2011-12-08 Thread Millwood

It probably won't help you, but all this works just fine under linux.
I have scripts that use mplayer dumpstream and kill mplayer after a set
time.

I do run a simple program after to find the first valid mp3 frame and
throw away everything before it, but I don't know that that is
necessary.

For streams that cause trouble (usually non-mp3) I dump to wave and
then lame the wave back to mp3. You need to tell lame what kind of
stream it is because there is no wave header.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien failure

I was confusing two issues, because for a while the WBAA stream was
really broken.

But when is was not broken, in the sense that mplayer could stream it,
Alien could not.

I've resolved this by installing the beta. I have no idea what's going
on.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SettingsManager broken 7.4?

2009-09-21 Thread Millwood

I tried to use settingsmanager to move settings from one SB3 to another.
I checked all the choices.

Result - both wound up the same (I think), but nothing like what I
started with.

MusicInfSCR I think went to default - not sure. But in a strange way.
On the Web interface, the settings were OK. But I had to apply them on
the web interface to each SB3 to make them happen.

I don't have the interest to do a better job of problem determination -
I almost never change settings anyhow.

(I tried it because I decided to clean install 7.4 and had to
reconfigure both my SB3s).

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicInfoSCR Question/Request

2009-09-15 Thread Millwood

I can't figure out how to get my SB3 display the way I want it. Either
I'm missing something or I'd love an enhancement.

Basically, I'd like the top line to behave like the controller progress
line.

When playing a track, I'd like time elapsed, time remaining, and a bar.
Order is not crucial to me.

When playing a live stream, I'd like time elapsed.

The closest I can come is to set the left side to elapsed time, and the
right side to progress-bar/time remaining. This is ok for tracks, but
ugly for live streams.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien Display Problem on Controller

2009-08-14 Thread Millwood

When I navigate to a listen again place I get a screen in which the
normal stuff is covered with text. It's as if some piece of text has
gotten very long and is overlaying the display.

This is on latest 7.3.4 with latest Alien.

An example:

alien -> radio 3 -> afternoon on 3

(That's the first entry - all the ones I've looked at are similarly
broken).

If I navigate there on the web UI, I see a very long "description"
which looks like the text overlayed on the controller screen.

Alien BBC
Listen Again A to Z

Composer of the Week (any entry)

But I can't reproduce it reliably now.

It may be related to my having made the Composer of the Week a
favorite. Its value is

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/radio3.xml?Composer of the
Week

and it leads to the current list of available programs.

As of this morning, I see no failure navigating via alien. If I
navigate via the favorite above, today works, but the remaining entries
from last week (chopin) fail, at least Tues and Wed do - I didn't try
them all.

Bizarre.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicInfoSCR problem with Alien.

2009-06-14 Thread Millwood

This is a long standing problem which I misdiagnosed as an SC problem.
See http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=12104

Symptom.

Play the listen again selection Composer of the Week. On the SB3, set
the size to large. The Title goes blank. The right hand entry (I use
elapsed time) remains.

Setting the screensaver to now playing does NOT change this.

Turning off the plugin and restarting SC does "fix" this, the display
now shows the name of the track.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicInfoSCR (or Now Playing) enhancement

2009-06-04 Thread Millwood

The display I want when playing a track (either on my server or a listen
again track or podcast) is different from the display I want when
listening to a live station. It would be nice if there were separate
configurations for the two.

In essence, the elapsed, progress bar, time remaining I put on the top
line is useless for a live track. On the other hand, a live track has
both the name I know it by and the text it is sending, and I'd like to
see them both.

By the way, maybe it's not new, but I've just noticed that I'm getting

New or not - thanks for a wonderful add-on.

And one small wish for the future.

I "pause by hand" - I remember my position - stop the (listen again)

maybe a tiny bit before. Any hope of that being done automagically in

I've had it installed for a couple of days on Debian Etch under

Install via extension installer was smooth.

(home dir, email, etc) in.

It assumes lame and mplayer and a built version of the included MP3.c

I'm a debian etch user.

I'm happy to answer small questions.

The normal caveats apply. I make no claims that this code works, or
that it won't erase your whole hard disk, or get you pregnant, or
anything else :-)

composer-last-name conductor-last-name n

where n was the symphony number, and that worked.

I do use keyword search with 4 char min.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Cover Art request

2009-01-19 Thread Millwood

It would be nice if I had the option of providing the search words
rather than using the ones found.

I've seen a number of cases in which the plugin didn't find anything,
but I could easily find the album in amazon. (I then downloaded the
cover art myself).

I think its just a matter of a disconnect between what gracenote
returns to my rip program and what amazon will find.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Recording of Radio Stations

2009-01-06 Thread Millwood

I've taken a different approach. A linux script that uses mplayer to
rip a stream. If its mp3, I just rip it. If its something else, I
capture a wave and lame it to mp3. The script takes a time and records
that many minutes from the url you specify.

I have cron jobs which kick of the recorder for specific shows at
specific times.

I'm leaving out lots of details about error recovery, getting good
URL's, etc. I suspect my script is too idiosyncratic to be useful to
others, but I'd be happy to give it away as is.

When save playlists if off, and I sync, the first entry in the playlist
disappears!

If it's the first entry that's playing, it restarts as well as

If another track is playing, it syncs mid track but the first entry
disappears.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and syncoptions

2008-12-24 Thread Millwood

Just reproduced the behavior.

Facts are:

Fails if first player is a receiver or an SB3
Try to sync an SB3 to the playing receiver or SB3
Track is mp3
On syncing the SB3, the track restarts.

Settings etc:

unsync at power off: on
wait for next track: default
restore playlist: off
allow late join: 5 sec
precision: 0.5 sec

0.7a22
Version: 7.3.2 - 24415 @ Wed Dec 24 03:12:33 PST 2008
plugins installed:
Alien
CustomSkip
FindArt
MusicInfoSCR
PowerSave
SigGen
SyncOptions

TriColorLED

What can I do to help? Logging options? Anything else?

And - no rush - selecting midtrack sync is a perfectly good workaround
for me.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] 7.3 and syncoptions

2008-12-23 Thread Millwood

What exactly is syncoptions doing about mid track sync on 7.3. AFAIK,
this is the default behavior built into 7.3. But with the latest
syncoptions, if you select default, you get the restart the track
behavior.

When you ask syncoptions to sync midtrack on 7.3, does it just let 7.3
do the deed or does it try to help?

For me, the only need for syncoptions is to unsync at power down, and
I'm just curious as to what else I'm getting in the package.

It appears that with 7.3, if you (also) set syncoptions to sync in mid
track, it breaks 7.3 sync in mid track. If you set syncoptions to
default, you get sync in mid track.

If you're upgrading, the option will be set to attempt mid song if
that's what you've been using. Note that the option is in the
syncoptions settings on the pluggins page, not in the player synchonize
menu.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: AlienBBC v2.02 Beta1

2008-09-16 Thread Millwood

I am playing the BBC Composer of the Week sequence. I have a playlist
which contains the mon thru fri links.

When the player finishes an entry and automatically starts the next
entry, the scanner stops working. I've seen two different symptoms.
One is that the scanner does not appear at all when the fwd button is
pressed. The other is that the scanner appears, lets me change the
apparent position, but nothing happens.

If i go to the playlist and press play for the same track that wasn't
working, the scanner again works.

This seems related to my old playlists which use links like:

rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio3/cotw/cotw_mon.ra

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Bookmarking AlienBBC streams

2008-04-05 Thread Millwood

I find that if I try to bookmark an AlienBBC stream, either live or
replay, I get a url that looks like http://.ram. The bookmark
plays if I start it from the web interface, but not from my SB3.

If I wget the url, I get a rtsp:// url which does play from a
bookmark.

I've been removing a long session id string from these rtsp: url's -
they don't seem to be needed.

So - is there any hope of getting this to happen automagically?

Alternatively, is the whole situation more complicated than I
understand?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Duet and SongScanner

I hope the 7.1 improvements really to what I need.

I regularly listen to ripped radio programs - one I listen to a lot,
for example, starts with 6 minutes of news, and has 6 more minutes at
the 1 hour point. Song Scanner makes skipping this a breeze.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicInfo and Buffer Fullness on One Line

2008-03-30 Thread Millwood

This is a trivial issue but if its easy to fix in passing ...

When using a one line display, with playtime to the right, if the "now
playing information" is buffer fullness, MusicInfo attempts to display
the graphic rather than just the numeric percentage. In a one line
display, the graphic fills the whole display. Leaving out the graphic
is MusicInfo standard behavior for one line playtime for other
information like elapsed time.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien not configuring file types an debian

2007-10-21 Thread Millwood

The problem is that /etc/slimserver is hard wired as the source for the
extra conf files.

I finally decided to move everything from /etc/slimserver into
/usr/share/slimserver and symlink /etc/slimserver to
/usr/share/slimserver.

But the extra conf files from alien still need to be in
/usr/share/slimserver, not down in Alien. This is where the alien tar
file puts them, by the way.

IMHO, the conf lookup is broken, but its hard wired in the perl
scripts, so I'm not going to hack it.

AFAIK, the way songscanner works is.

1. start a track playing.
2. navigate to the songscanner entry and press right to open it.
3. use up/down to move forward/back, play to jump to the current
position.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien BBC and stored .ram files

2007-04-11 Thread Millwood

This has been around before but ...

I have some files in real audio format. Somehow, it seems that with
Alien installed, all the mechanism would seem to exist to play them.

So how hard would it be to make it work. Or does it work and I don't
know how?

(It seems to me that the basic slim design would do well to have a
standard way of plugging in an audio processor like mplayer to deal
with stream types that it doesn't support).

Be warned that the resulting wav file is humongous - something like
500meg per hour.

I record rstp and mms exactly this way on a Linux box - using Lame to
encode the wav file after capture.

Another thought is to run softsqueeze on your laptop and capture the
stream there with audacity.

(I tried automating this sort of stuff on windows and gave up - on
Linux it is possible to write robust scripts that I can rely on.)

I love the integration with now playing. I use MusicInfoSCR to get
playtime displayed in one line (huge size) mode on my SB3. I used to
have to wait for the timeout, now I can press now playing.

But something has changed. I display playtime, or in two line mode
playtime_progress. When I pause a clip, the time switches from elapsed
to the size of the clip - or to zero if its a live stream.

I assume/hope this is a bug, not a feature.

Again - thanks for his plugin.
