Jason, I presume you are typing htth://max2play into a browser search
window?

If this does not work, can you find the the IP address of the max2play
and just enter that into the browser search, e.g.: 192.168.1.xx

Ok, the m2p setup I assembled for a buddy is acting up. I plugged it in
to my network and I see the max2play device through my router, and can
ping it.

However I can't open the http max2play website. It had the wifi dangle

issue.

Time for a card refresh? Any other ideas?

anyone used the Max2play Access point plugin to allow wifi access

Correct on the url. The IP address does the same thing - page not
found.

FWIW, if I unplug and power up the machine, it won't register on the
network, but if I then unplug and replug the network cable it's visible
in my router. I'm beginning to think the board itself is fubar.

- Installing latest Squeezebox server within M2P, without the need to

- Possibility to run openvpn on the RPI

It's a readynas duo

I've now bought a Synology and it's brought a breath of fresh air into
my old cobweb ridden nas solution.. now slowly migrating it all over to
the new nas.

I am sure I could have got the back up to have been read by a 3rd party
programme but I can now at least move over music/photos the rest is
pretty much expendable

Weird thing though both the NAS Web UI (frontend) AND the PI Max2play
web UI are not displaying...I've turned off router etc but not helping.

Actually I have a gig switch connecting them both to a homeplug - could
they be in need of resetting?... thinking aloud there .. will have to
try that tonight.

But strange thing I noticed when trying to load the max2play UI on my
Chrome mobile browser - it said it couldn't open it but if I then typed
in a new URL and then tapped 'back' the UI shows up .. but if I try to
then tap on settings or another tab it says it's unreachable again..
WEIRD!

What about the old switch it off and on again?

Switch everything off (correct shut-down procedure) except the
modem/router

Then reset the router. Let it stabilise for a min or two and then switch
each item on separately, NAS first, then everything else, one at a time.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Max2Play Webinterface for Mediaclients (Audioplayer, Squeezeserver, Airplay, XBMC)

2015-11-05 Thread Teetertank

I just got an Odroid XU4 that I'd like to use for Squeezelite player and
server.

The trouble I have is the fixing of the mount point on the 'Filesystem
mount' tab of Max2play. I'm using a USB drive and it gets recognised as
an attached drive but if I click '-Set fixed Mountpoint to prevent
directory switching on reboot-' it doesn't seem to remember the USB port
for the attached drive and it ends up on a different port or not show at
all after power is removed or device is rebooted. This causes issues
with Squeezebox server not finding the drive and music library
associated with it after the device is rebooted.

This didn't seem to be a problem on the version U3+ 'droid I was using
before.

Does anyone know if this is a bug or if I need to enter details in the
'Mount network paths' section. The UUID name that gets copied in when
clicking the set fixed mountpoint check box , returns an error 'sudo:
unable to resolve host max2play' Mountpoint NOT added!...

@ad6922: there are some routers that do not translate names into IPs -
what model do you have? Do you have other network devices that can be
reached with network names? You may try to set "keep sound device alive"
in "Kodi settings -> System -> Audio output" and see if this fixes the
audio problem.

@Teetertank: I do not have an U3 anymore, but I don't think there is
much of a difference between U3 and U3+. Did you try all USB-slots of
the U3?

I had thought that the issue of "too many songs" was resolved in 7.9, or
maybe 7.8.1. if you're not using 7.9, try that.

max2play as url doesn't work. I do not why, but in the end I found out
what the mac address was.

So, now I have a fixed ip address and it works. Thanks for your
thoughts.

One question: On my server I have 63500 songs. When scanning squeezebox
server hangs around 32500 songs and doesn't go further.
Any thoughts about that?

I haven't been following all things pi that closely, but I was under
the impression that the wolfson card was quite popular at the beginning
and then got eclipsed by hifi berry and iqaudio efforts. It does do an
awful lot of things though. Nothing else has headphone, line out and
s/pdif out, let alone a/d, Mics (and even speaker outs.)
Shame the kernel seems to be a weak spot.
I'm wondering whether it can work with the touch screen.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Max2Play Webinterface for Mediaclients (Audioplayer, Squeezeserver, Airplay, XBMC)

2015-10-27 Thread Teetertank

The Max2play system has been working a treat as my music server. I have
a droid U3 and a U3+

Today I've been trying to get a USB DAC working with the Odroid U3.

I was successful in connecting the U3+ to a USB DAC (iBasso) by
selecting the USB device in the sound card selection under the
Squeezelite advanced options tab of Max2play. But when I try the same on
the original U3 I don't see an option for USB devices. The drop down
list finishes at -'plughw - built-in audio-..but no USB options
listed. I've seen other people reference USB audio devices working with
the U3 but is this function limited to the U3+ version?

Grateful if anyone can advise if it's possible to use the U3 or if
there's some kind of tweak I need to do.

Thanks.

Just adjust the one it does show (you can do this with music playing, I
believe).

Also check the Settings page in the LMS web gui.

Go to Settings>Player>Audio and check the volume output, I'm guessing it
should be set to 100%

Try to find out the logic about cifs. And found this information on the
web:

The Difference between CIFS and SMB
IÂ’ve received quite a few questions from both new and experienced
sysadmins, about networked filesystems and file sharing protocols. One
question that comes up frequently is, “What is the difference between
CIFS and SMB?”

There are many idiosyncrasies, and the terminology can be confusing, so
IÂ’m going to boil down the essentials in an easy-to-follow blog
post.Here we go.

SMB
SMB stands for “Server Message Block.” It’s a file sharing protocol
that was invented by IBM and has been around since the mid-eighties. It
was designed to allow computers to read and write files to a remote host
over a local area network (LAN). The directories on the remote hosts
made available via SMB are called “shares.”

CIFS
CIFS stands for “Common Internet File System.” CIFS is a dialect of SMB.
That is, CIFS is a particular implementation of the Server Message
Block protocol, created by Microsoft.

So whatÂ’s the difference?
Most people, when they use either SMB or CIFS, are talking about the
same exact thing. The two are interchangeable not only in discussion,
but also in application – i.e., a client speaking CIFS can talk to a
server speaking SMB and vice versa. Why? Because CIFS is a form of
SMB.

If I then translate it to the way that your setup is working with
max2play it seems then that it's working because you have enabled smb.
Not sure if i'm right. Maybe flysurfer can add to this?

Well I used nsf on the qnap as I thought I would be going linux to linux.

But it seems that the way things work is cifs (windows) to nsf (linux).

When I used LMS on my O2Joggler it was linux to linux.

It's all beyond my ken:confused:

If you read from post#426

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?101856-Max2Play-Webinterface-for-Mediaclients-%28Audioplayer-Squeezeserver-Airplay-XBMC%29/page43

sometimes not:eek:).

Wait until you are set and running, then try.

In the next week or so I'm going to reconnect my Qnap NAS (ARM CPU) to
the network.

I'll try and do a guide for any problems that may occur (or just a guide
without problems:D)

Hi Ronnie,

yeah, saw that thread and copied it allreay to my notes for setting up
things. But it didn't say anything about the communication protocol.
You can only see that shares are available. So curious what settings you
have open on your QNAP: nfs, smb or afp?

Or all three, and then I dont know which one max2play is using.

Post #100 shows how I set up the shares on the NAS.

As I said before, I had to enter cifs in the box when I did the

Well since I posted that link I have realised that maybe I have packed
away my NAS into storage:o. Will have to check at the weekend.

Somewhere here or on another thread I have posted how I set up the NAS.
I'll search to try and find it.

If I remember correctly I configured for NFS on the NAS, but when doing
the mount in Max2Play I had to enter cifs in the box (I don't understand
why, but that worked. It was also the same when I used Triode's SOA).

I'll get back to you later.

Ronnie.

I run two systems, one with LMS on a rpi2 and the other with Odroid U3
(now discontinued I think).

If you intend to use the small form computer just to run LMS then there
is no real (IME) difference.

The rpi2 has excellent support and I would say stick with that.

It is the support that is key with these things (again IME).

If in the UK I can recommend

Thanks for all your reactions. Lot more questions to come ;-)

Question 1:
- I assume that a DAC is only needed when you want to install
squeezelite on the RPI. I don't need that as I own more then enough SB
players ;-). So am I right that I don't need a DAC then? (sorry, just
starting to learn it overhere)

Question 2:
For the hardware, I read the following remarks in the thread over the
hardware:
- Thanks for considering adding this Flysurfer. Before using the Odroid
I was running LMS and Squeezelite off of a Raspberry Pi. This worked but
there was a considerable amount of lag when changing the music. With the
Odroid this is a thing of the past.*
- The odroid seems much faster than my pi so cant wait to see how it
does with LMS and Kodi.
- On a side note - LMS runs really well on the Odroid U3 - a good bit
faster then my Raspberry Pi 2 - scanning my 65000 track library took
less than half the time (probably largely down to eMMC, but other
factors may well be an influence). And Kodi seems to run a bit
smoother.*

According to these message Odroid would be the preferred option for
speed. Do you ahve a different experience, based on RPI advice that you
gave?

Question 3:
Next to Squeezebos Server I want to run Kodi as well. Still stick to
RPI?

Question 4:
Man in a Van advices to use 16GB. Is that still valid with LMS and Kodi
together?

Well, I thought you just wanted LMS, Is Kodi an example of mission creep
or did you always want to this?;)

I can't speak on this as I don't do Kodi (or anything like it)

On your other post you quote someone recommending the Odroid because of
its speed it scanning a music library.

This will depend on the size of your library, remember that you will
only do a full rescan occasionally (I guess).

It is for you to decide which will suite the best.

My main point is the support.

Reading through the threads, you will notice that Stefan is very active
on supporting his product.

The team behind the raspberry pi are committed to supporting it (and
future versions).

The Odroid may appear to be more cutting edge (it is very much more
niche than the plebeian pi) but I think that the support offered by
Hardkernel is not up to the same standard (others may disagree).

It is the background support that enables the developers to do their
stuff.

But decide for yourself, what is your location?

Perhaps someone nearby will let you experience the virtues of either
device

Take a look over on the HardKernel site and search for LMS.

atb

Ronnie.

Understand now that max2play is a browser for a RPI or Odroid. And that

So that sounds good. Read some challenges to find the nas-share with
some ways to figure it our, so with some common sense
and help from these sources I will manage to do so.

Then for the hardware: You can use Odroid or RPI. Seems that for the
best experience I need an Odroid, according to same thread results.

Hi ad6922,

you can easily go with a Raspberry Pi 2. This is powerful enough for
hosting a Squeezebox Server and a player on the same device and runs
very smooth. We have some prebuild images for the Raspberry that are
tested and you find good DACs like HiFiBerry that offer good sound
quality.

The Odroid U3 that we used in the beginning is not produced anymore and
the XU4 has a fan mounted on the CPU that is not really silent. The
ODROID C1+ is little more powerful but has less supported hardware and
less people are using it.

If you are aiming for an easy setup and solid functionality and support
- get the Raspberry with a good DAC.

@ad6922: I thought you are going for a player and server in one device.
If you are just looking for a Squeezebox Server, the ODROID XU4 might be
worth looking at. But as I mentioned this has a fan, that makes some
noise... So you have to hide it somewhere. The EMMC-Cards a lot faster
than SD-Cards, but this isn't that important when you are streaming your
music from a NAS.

When this thread started, there was no Raspberry Pi 2 - so comparing the
ODROID U3 and the Old Raspberry Pi, the ODROID gave a lot more
performance. Now that we have the RPi 2 things changed a bit. You may
run a Squeezebox Server and Kodi at the same time on a Raspberry Pi 2.

I was searching for a solution to solve the security breach of my

realized by reading about max2play that Kodi can be handled as well. So
that makes it logical to combine it when buying this,

My music still resides on the NAS, I want the Squeezebox Server software

I assume with the limited knowledge on this part that I have that this
is possible with the raspberry Pi linked with an ethernet cable to the
internal network.

1) If So, What exactly do i need to buy (raspberry Pi 2, max2play (?)
2) How can I install the squeezebox server on the device (any manuals,

3) How can I link to my server to play the music?

Well, if you go to the posts I linked to and read through, you will see
that there is no need for dread, but there is a need for perseverance:D

Ian, do a delete and retry with cfs.

On my qnap the files are on nfs but that does not seem to work (I
haven't done this for a while, so memory might be incorrect) also make
sure the permissions are correct on the NAS to allow access.

This feels like a dunce question but I'm stuck. I have a Pi 2 and I'm
trying to set up max2play/squeeze plug to use my Pi as a rnusic
renderer. I've got as far doing the settings but I'm struggling to get
the mount point set. I have a Diskstation 214 and my music files are in
: Diskstation>music>Folder1.

So I input: //IP address:diskstation   And then the mount point as;
/music/Folder

But I received a message saying the mount point /music is
incorrect.

Where have I gone wrong?

2015-09-28 Thread iansr

Thank you Ronnie. Reassuring to know that it is not as straightforward
as the instructions imply! The common problem with instructions
relating to IT is that the authors invariably assume knowledge on the
part of the reader, particularly in relation to terminology. So for
example, when it says PATH, does that mean you type PATH, or do you type
the name of your folder. The latter it would seem. But then "mount".
What does that signify? Well having looked at the earlier posts it would
seem you actually type, "mount" ! How are you supposed to know that!
Stefan: please do not take offence, as I say this is an all too common
problem.

Hi Ian, look back in this thread to here

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?101856-Max2Play-Webinterface-for-Mediaclients-%28Audioplayer-Squeezeserver-Airplay-XBMC%29/page43

Read the next two or so pages carefully, you will see that it is a tale
of sorrow and disappointment.

No, not really, just a bit of luck and the system does work as when I
did a fresh install.

Pay careful attention to the first part of post #439.

Good luck.

Ronnie.

Could you have a look at the message output after Shairtunes2

I just started from scratch. Installed 7.9 nightly and fter that
Sharitunes2 and restarted, it does not load. In debug it says it was not
compiled:

/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/ShairTunes2/Plugin.pm

I had expanded my SD Card and it is 8GB.

Any ideas?

Problem solved

I downloaded version 2.12 from your website and updated it to 2.20 and
now it worked!

Before I had started with version 2.00 that I had updated to 2.20 -
something must have been missing in that version and it was not updated
during 2.20 update.

Now Shairtunes2 is running - but no music - but I guess that has to do
with the new IOS9 issue of shairtunes, but atleast I am one step
further...

@Squeezemenicely: Please make sure to use the Shairtunes2 Plugin. I just
tested it with LMS 7.8 (fresh install) and had no problems. When you do
the installation of Shairtunes2 in the Max2Play Web interface, please
have a look at the message that can be opened after the installation of

our Max2Play forum and you'll get help :)

@bobertuk: for specific questions it is better to use the forum on the
