I also use SyncBack (free version). It will work from a usb drive.
You set up a profile to update from one folder to another or to an ftp site.
So in your case you might set up one profile to update from your computer to
the usb drive and another from the usb drive to the ftp site.

Just today I found out that at work I'll need to go to the control panel to
make changes more a lot more often than normal and this will continue for the
