Hi list,
I have a PowerBook 540c that has the AAUI port built-in and the AAUI
to
RJ45 transciever. I was wondering what kind of performance should I
expect on that setup? I don't think I get more than like 150 Kb/s
maximum and more like 30-50 Kb/s. Would it make sense to get a

I have a couple of PowerBook 500 laptops here, and I don't have any
batteries for them. According to the service manual, the batteries are
supposed to output 10.8 volts. If my math is right, that means exactly nine
1.2 volt rechargeable AAs.
Would it be feasible to fabricate a battery holder case
Bob,
Their is a special adapter for the 3400, but if you do not plan to use both
the ethernet and modem at tthe same time you can hard wire either through the
rear port.

Rob asked:
Did you make the floppy disks AFTER the images were mounted on the desktop?
I didn't think there was a way to make the images directly into disks.
Yes -- and I never tried to construct a whole system that way, just the
emergency boot disk floppies for 7.5x 8.5.
Best,
Victoria

Wow, I'm glad this confusion seems to be solved! I thought I'd been
having hallucinations! :-)
Rob
Technically, you didn't use the installer to make floppies; you used
floppies to transfer the installer image to a hard drive.

I also use a Dayna CommuniCard Ethernet

found that the newer driver for the card

I've gotten it to work fine (tested on a 520c and Quadra 800). Don't get me
wrong, it's not easy but I'll do my best to describe how I did it. First I
downloaded the whole 19 files and then decompressed the whole deal (gives you
a folder which is your installer). Anyway, I then used it to
Yep, holding 'c' won't work when booting up these machines, I can't remember
the exact combination, something like command-option-shift-delete when
starting up. Usually in times like this, I just hold down as many of the
typical buttons (i.e., option, command, control etc etc) and go from there.

Right on the money. The command bypasses the startup drive and looks for any
other OS. The joys of internal IDE/external SCSI device detection. I'd try that
route before investing in the labor and cost of a PRAM battery, although many

Thanks Gary. It would've helped if the 3400 had come with a manual ...
I'm a little embarrassed and very grateful. Thanks!

Just obtained a 3400c myself. Go to apple's webpage and download the

Hi everyone. I am in the process of setting up my PB 540c for general use

Anyway, I have noticed that my fingers sweat a lot when I am using a mouse,
