Our procedural guidance requires better than 20 dpm within TVA. We currently use the Ludlum Model 12 with scaler option and a 43-92 detector. We are finding that as these instruments age we are not able to achieve the background and efficiency limits that permit us to use 2 minute counting. So

We use the Ludlum 3030P which has the PIPS semiconductor detector. Still need a count rate limit to do smear-of-a-smear to prevent false beta and alpha at high count rates. If the photon count rate is too high, the mV pulses in one count period will get added together and create a combined
