I think in all honesty for all but a few niche applications dot matrix
is an anachronistic total pain in the arse and should be dispensed with.
Life is so much simpler without having to fight with defining custom
paper sizes for cheques, print carriage position, alignment, glacial
print speeds and

I got around the "multiple coloured copies" when we moved over to laser printer
by printing a coloured band on the top of each copy identifying "customer
copy", "our copy" and "carriers copy".
It has worked really well and doesn't use up too much coloured ink supplies
either!
