Re: [PEDA] [PROTEL EDA USERS]: Designator conventions?!
Lloyd, You might want to find the ANSI standard (do a Yahoo web search, etc.) for reference designators. It should help. John - John R. Hi all, Even the term Designator conventions smacks of oxymoron. I am trying to create a company library database and SOP for design. I have many Engineers with various cultural backgrounds, some of which use some pretty weird ID's and symbols. Before I institute my 10 commandments, I would love to see some Designator conventions used by all of you. Please include as many as possible in your replies. The more ammunition the better. Note- I would prefer more North Amercian conventions as we are a N.A company. Re: [PEDA] Protel default Vcc hidden power pins
I would like to make a brief comment about hiding power pins. I have been burned. My advice to anyone who thinks this is a good idea is don't do it. Show everything where nothing is assumed to be connected. This allows proper identification of all bypass caps shown right where they are connected to the device. -Original Message- From: Abd ul-Rahman Lomax [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2001 6:21 PM To: Protel EDA Forum Subject: Re: [PEDA] Protel default Vcc hidden power pins At 04:21 PM 3/13/01 -0700, Gordon Price wrote: Ladies Gents, How do you globally fix hidden power pins(from Protel library parts) that go to a net called Vcc, to go to a fully defined and existing layer that has a net name of +3.3V Two ways: (1) Edit the library part so that the pin name has +3.3V instead of VCC. (2) Unhide the pins in the sheet editor and explicitly connect the pins to the power net you want to use. The second method is probably better. Some of us firmly believe that hidden pins should never be used. I'm not quite so radical, but they do have a point, or, more accurately, several points. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post a message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * * To join or leave this list visit: * http://www.techservinc.com/protelusers/subscrib.html * - or email - * mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=leave%20proteledaforum * * Contact the list manager: * mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Re: [PEDA] Protel Support Came Thru ... Hooray!!
Good point, Andrew ... Start Protel with the Control button pressed. That way, the goofies that caused the crash in the first place do not get invoked by Protel and you can get back up quickly. Only problem is that on my windows nt 4 system pentium iii and all that, it took over 2 minutes for the picture of the man at the keyboard to go away ... and that was only because i was talking on the phone to support. hint: when you start protel99se using the control button hold down deal, wait and wait a long long time ... go for coffee, etc., before you give up and use task manager to end protel. hope this helps the people on this forum. Thanks. Many thanks again. Cheers. Re: [PEDA] Memory Error
Same here. Happens often. Protel99SE SP5 and I'll use it for hours, exit, think I am out of it (I'm out of it all right...) then find that I have to use task mgr to shut it down. This happens often enough to be a real pain. After closing Protel down and open another application that takes up a large amount of memory, I get a memory error. This is the first time I opened the task manager to see what was eating all the memory. I found Protel was still sucking memory even though it was closed. Any how I ended the process, shut down the computer and started it back up again. Opened Protel again did some work, saved it and closed it out, shut down windows again and the program still running window pops up. Is there a setting that I may have messed up that my be causing this? Has anyone experienced this before? Thank you in advance, Ted Tontis Engage Networks Inc. Re: [PEDA] [PROTEL EDA USERS]: Anyone there?
Yea, Protel! We are all out there working on designs using Protel! Love Protel! Thank heavens we are not stuck with some awful convoluted awkward EDA software. Protel makes this job a lot of fun. I'm here, you are there, and this is a wonderful network [PROTEL EDA USERS] with great folks!
