Mr. Watnoski's reply might work for the archive for the PEDA list, but Mr. Webster was asking about the DXP list, which is archived on yahoogroups. There is no instruction at the end of DXP mail as to how to access the archive (Altium could put it there, but they haven't -- nor have I for the other yahoogroups protel-user lists.) To view the archive for a yahoogroups list, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/[listname]/messages For the PEDA list, we have established an independent archive at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/protel-users-PEDA-Archive/messages Unfortunately, there seems to be no public or member access to the DXP list archive, probably because Altium has configured it that way (the default is that the archive is accessible to list members). I suggest to Altium that this is a shortcoming. If it is desired to edit the archive to remove fluff, it is easily done, the moderator can remove messages. Since the DXP list is mostly written by users, I think, however, that we would prefer to establish an independent user archive, similar to what we have for the PEDA list. This might actually be an advantage, because the DXP list, moderated by Altium, could be edited to retain only useful support messages, while a full archive for the few who would want to see it would be available elsewhere. Or if Altium prefers to keep the full archive -- much less work --, perhaps the users would edit the echo. Daniel, to view the archives you must be logged in to Yahoo and view them from your groups. Re: [PEDA] Dxp forum
Thanks to all that posted the DXP link. I'm going to monitor DXP forum until all of the OS bugs are worked out. The DXP release looks like it was released too early and with too many bugs to be a useful tool, much like 99 was released then a year later 99SE was released. So Ill monitor activity there without my two cents See you guys there Mike Reagan - Original Message - From: Tony Karavidas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: 'Protel EDA Forum' <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, August 27, 2002 7:45 PM Subject: Re: [PEDA] Dxp forum > Nah, we're just all so smart with 99SE that we now don't have much to > say about it. Phil, This is the response I got after following Altium's instructions: ".We have received your request to join the dxptechforum group hosted by Yahoo! Groups, a free, easy-to-use community service. This request will expire in 21 days. TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE GROUP: 1) Go to the Yahoo! Regards, Yahoo! Groups Customer Care." I chose the option, "2)REPLY.", and got confirmation a little while later. I got no request for an ID or a password via this route. However, it is conceivable that my name is already somewhere in the bowels of Yahoo's (huge?) database, but, would that qualify me? This is not correct. To subscribe to any yahoogroups list, send a piece of mail to [listname][EMAIL PROTECTED] You will receive a confirmation mail. Reply to that mail and you are subscribed to the list. There is also a web link in the confirmation mail, but it is not necessary to use it. It is much easier and faster to just hit Reply/Send. the address to subscribe, to repeat it, is [EMAIL PROTECTED] There are several good reasons to take DXP issues and concerns to the DXP list. The main one is that questions asked there get answered by people who know whereof they write. The respondent might be Mr. Loughhead (is he still the Protel Product Manager?) or one of the programmers. Or it might be another DXP user somewhat familiar, by now, with the program from having been a Beta tester. I have seen a number of issues raised in the PEDA list, and ensuing discussion, that was simply rooted in ignorance (or to put it another way, on documentation that is missing or has not been understood). This list I consider to be for 99SE support; DXP issues are largely noise for 99SE users, who can, if they wish, listen in on the DXP list or get DXP support there. Or even grouse about DXP.
