Re: [PSAS] [Amateur Radio Workshop] Week 7 Meeting!
Hey Georges,Maine is Beautiful! However I am unsure if I can join today.I would suggest going over ch6 and introducing ch7. I think ch7 will have most of the things that will be unfamiliar, so going over that one in detail may be a good idea.Cheers,Glenn Glenn LeBrasseur, KJ7SUgle...@twaves.org From: "Georges Oates Larsen" Date: Thu, Aug 23, 2018 10:27 amTo: psas-team@lists.psas.pdx.eduSubject: [PSAS] [Amateur Radio Workshop] Week 7 Meeting! Hello, fellow burgeoning radio enthusiasts! This week marks our Seventh Amateur Radio Workshop session. I wasn't able to make it to last week's session due to a family medical concern. This week, I'll be present, but only over hangouts, and it looks like Glenn may not be able to make it either. My temptation, this week (August 24th), is to re-hash Chapter 6: Communicating with other HAMs. If you'd like to do this, send me an email back letting me know, and I'll make it happen, and send another email to let everyone know. However, in the event that no one responds, the current plan is to march forward through to Chapter 7: Licensing Regulations. As always, our source is the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual, and we're meeting from 1-2PM this Friday in the Rocket Room or on Hangouts. Next wee! k (August 31st), we'll covering Chapter 8! (Unless we decide to re-hash Chapter 6 this week). And, once again as always, we welcome discussion pertaining to any week, regardless of the official topic. Most importantly : Since neither Glenn nor I will be there in person, someone will have to connect to Google Hangouts to patch us in. You can do so by loading the following URL in Chrome (and yes, it has to be chrome... thanks, google...) http://psas.pdx.edu/hangout If you'd like more detailed information about getting an Amateur Radio License, please take a look at the following links: The ARRL website on Amateur Radio (and licensing!) Re: [PSAS] IMPORTANT: Missing two PSAS books - thermal control and electromagnetics
I am the criminal for Stephen's Electromagnetics book!I casually asked people in the lab, but did not really get a proper answer before borrowing it. Sadly I won't be back until 1-Jul. I could make arrangements to have someone get it back to the lab before then if 1-Jul is a problem. Let me know and I will act on that. Otherwise I will bring it in around 8 am on Monday 2-Jul.My shameful apologies.- Glenn Glenn LeBrasseurgle...@twaves.org From: "Andrew Greenberg" Date: Fri, Jun 22, 2018 3:40 pmTo: "psas-team" Subject: [PSAS] IMPORTANT: Missing two PSAS books - thermal control and electromagnetics Hi everyone,We're missing two books:Stephen's "Advanced Engineering Electromagnetics"Peter's "Spacecraft Thermal Control Handbook"If you have them, please let me know (you won't get in trouble, don'tworry ;) and then bring them back as soon as you can.Thanks,Andrew-- ---Andrew GreenbergAdjunct FacultyElectrical and Computer EngineeringPortland State Universitya...@pdx.edu C: 503.708.7711---___psas-team mailing listpsas-team@lists.psas.pdx.eduhttp://lists.psas.pdx.edu/mailman/listinfo/psas-teamThis list's membership is automatically generated from the memberships of the psas-airframe, psas-avionics, and psas-general mail lists. [PSAS] Email archeology; PSAS roots
I was doing some email archeology and found this silly message; fun! I think this the first email to the group? Also I think it was before Oregon required 10 digit dialing? = Message 2700: From j...@ee.pdx.edu Mon Jun 30 09:41:47 1997 Subject: Calling all Aerospace Nerds!! (34 lines) More? [ynq] Hi! We're going to start a student branch of the IEEE Aerospace and Electrical Systems Society (AESS) here at PSU. Basically, we need 12 IEEE student members (we can sign you up for the IEEE at the same time) in order to start the society. If you are: - interested in space-based applications including - Sattelite communications, - Robotic exploration of the solar system, - SETI, - Astrophysics and Cosmology, - Rocket Science (ha!), - interested in aeronautics including - commercial plane design, - GPS and other related aeronautic electronics, - interested in touring really cool facilities around the Portland and Seattle area, - doing ridiculus things in the name of science (like launching 12ft high powered rockets with self-created electronic payloads), ... then consider joining the society! Re: [PSAS] Trackmaster Update
Nathan and Jared, Thanks so much for sharing! That is awesome. Close the loop with GPS data back from the rocket I expect. The original Trackmaster closed the loop at the cross-hairs/eyeball connection. It would be nice if the interface to the tracker would be standard hamlib format so you could also plug in gpredict to track other celestial stuff too. Kudos to Jared big time! Glenn N. LeBrasseur gle...@twaves.org Quoting Nathan Bergey nat...@psas.pdx.edu: Some cool news from the last meeting: on Tuesday Jared shared his progress on a motorized antenna tracker. He's been working on it all this term and has posted his work on google code: http://code.google.com/p/2-axis-trackmaster-psas/ There is code and video on the site, notably this nice video tour of the hardware and of it running: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gv88v_zyxGMfeature=youtu.be Kudos to Jared on the great progress! He hopes to work on it next term as well, adding a tracking loop. He might bring it in the next Tuesday meeting to show off. -Nathan ___ psas-team mailing list psas-team@lists.psas.pdx.edu http://lists.psas.pdx.edu/mailman/listinfo/psas-team This list's membership is automatically generated from the memberships of the psas-airframe, psas-avionics, and psas-general mail lists. [PSAS] Weather advisory, Tuesday 11-Jan-2011 meeting canceled?
I just talked to Andrew (6 pm) and he thinks the weather is bad enough to cancel tonight's meeting. I'm in SE Portland right now and there is freezing rain coming down, and it seems to be sticking on the road. Temperature is 30 deg F here. Glenn Glenn N. Re: [PSAS] falcon 9 is t-6!
Excellent! It's kind of funny to hear someone on the com channel give warning about the grass fires near the hanger at about T+00:06:42. A little PSASesque?
