[PSAS] Launch date, funding, communication test, and Maker Faire!
Hi everyone! Launch date --- We're currently scheduled for a launch on Sunday October 21st at Oregon Rocketry's "Rocketober" launch in Brothers, Oregon. We'll be launching the new flight computer, with WiFi and ATV radios, GPS, and the current roll control system. Preliminary information is here: http://psas.pdx.edu/launch10/ Funding --- I've been working with the PSU college of engineering to coordinate funding efforts for PSAS. Essentially the idea is for us to approach aerospace companies together. This is, unfortunately, a very long process - sometimes on the order of months to years - and leaves us broke for at least another couple of quarters. To make sure that we're really going strong in the mean time, the Dean has approved $10,000 in funding for PSAS. These funds will pay back old debts to our members, and allow us to really make some progress on various rocket systems this coming academic year. Thank you Dean Su! Friday's Communications Test On Friday, we finally managed to do a quarter-scale (~ 1 km) communication test, and shockingly, everything worked. From the new Gibbs bridge at the base of the Portland tram to the observation deck at OHSU, we had packets bouncing back and forth on the 5.18 GHz WiFi comm channel, decent video on the 2.4 GHz ATV channel, and a solid 3D position lock on the GPS. More details here: http://psas.pdx.edu/news/2012-09-14/ Maker Faire We have a corner of a table at the Maker Faire at OMSI today and tomorrow; come on down and check out the new avionics system and give us a hand at the booth! We'll be there 10am - 6pm all day today and tomorrow. More soon, Andrew -- --- Andrew Greenberg Portland State Aerospace Society (http://psas.pdx.edu/) and...@psas.pdx.edu C: 503.708.7711 --- ___ psas-team mailing list psas-team@lists.psas.pdx.edu http://lists.psas.pdx.edu/mailman/listinfo/psas-team This list's membership is automatically generated from the memberships of the psas-airframe, psas-avionics, and psas-general mail lists. Note that for NXRS, the high waiver *requires* launching from the 'homestead' site up on the hill -- need to get further from the hwy. So, I imagine there will be several other launch towers set up there. Also, Rocket Magazine staff will be on-hand for pictures and a bit of publicity. It's hard to know how many other people will show up at this point. -- keith.pack...@intel.com pgpqrgTZl4ajT.pgp Description: PGP signature ___ psas-team mailing list psas-team@lists.psas.pdx.edu http://lists.psas.pdx.edu/mailman/listinfo/psas-team This list's membership is automatically generated from the memberships of the psas-airframe, psas-avionics, and psas-general mail lists. Re: [PSAS] Launch Date
We don't think we have enough time to build the patch antennas and test the flight computer stack for June. I don't think we can use the google calendar but if you want you can update this page on the wiki with your conflicts: http://psas.pdx.edu/news/2011-05-03/ I'm adding a header for it now. -Nathan On Fri, May 6, 2011 at 4:06 PM, I wrote: > I must have tuned out during the discussion. I must have tuned out during the discussion. Last I heard we were still thinking June. I have stuff going on the 16-17 and 23-24 weekends. Is there any way we can use the wiki/calendar to put up people's conflicts? Dan Last week we talked about trying to launch mid July in Brothers. To summarize: We would love to launch again soon. We are not ready to fly a 6DOF rocket yet, but we are desperate to finally fly the flight computer with the GFEs and sensors and new patch antennas/802.11a. We also want to launch as soon as possible so we have time to think about another launch later in the fall. To that end, here are the dates of the weekends in July with a couple of notes. Everyone should look at their own calendars and figure out what would and wouldn't work and be ready to discuss an official launch date this Tuesday (the 10th). - 9-10 - 16-17 - 23-24 - This is an O-Rock launch date. And OSCON is 25th-29th - 30-31 If you can't make in Tuesday and have strong opinions about when we should launch send an email so we know what you think. Re: [PSAS] Launch Date
July 1-3 is what's called NXRS- it's an all research launch geared towards advanced high power and amateur rocketry projects. It's not going to be too crowded like a lot of OROC launches with mostly serious EX rocketry folks flying there. The waiver will be coordinated (I think they're trying for 50k ft...it's at 42k AGL right now) and all of the other logistics taken care of. It seems like it would be a natural fit for a PSAS launch as I'm sure a lot of the advanced OROC guys would appreciate seeing the PSAS rocket fly, and the PSAS team gets to watch a bunch of other big rockets (M/N/O/P class motors- I'm flying an M to M two stage myself) fly. I think we could easily coordinate a separate launch cell away from the flightline to set up the PSAS site if that would be desired. [PSAS] Launch Date
Hi All, Last week we talked about trying to launch mid July in Brothers.
