contact a selection of
sites in the US for a couple of days, I sent a tracert that showed
how a couple of the ISP's own routers had somehow started playing
pingpong with requests (...ABCBCBC... loop ad infinitum).

This is typical browser behavior -- even if it doesn't reload the page
from the server, it reloads it from its internal cache. Either way, any
changes in the form text gets lost. I noticed it in Wiki primarily when
I have a tweak to resize the form window, in other words the user
must resize
