[QGIS-Developer] Gps connect

2022-07-27 Thread Geo DrinX via QGIS-Developer
Good evening,

I am trying to connect an external GPS to QGIS 3.26.1

I selected COM4 as serial (the one where gps is )

But, if I press the "Connect" button, QGIS answers "Impossibile connettersi
al gps"

Could I find some log or message to understand what I wrong?

Thank you in advance

[QGIS-Developer] How to save a DXF 3D using pyQgis ?

2020-10-18 Thread Geo DrinX
Good evening to all,

as in object, there is a way to save a DXF from a 3D polygon layer, using
pyQgis ?

I am using:

QgsVectorFileWriter.writeAsVectorFormat(layer, file, "UTF-8", crsCrs,
"DXF", overrideGeometryType=QgsWkbTypes.PolygonZ,skipAttributeCreation=True)

but (also it works with other file types) the option "overrideGeometryType"
seems to be irrilevant with DXF, and it saves in 2D.

Someone can help me to discover the correct syntax ?

Thank you in advance

I'm wondering what need there was in changing the names of the functions to
call in the api qgis 3.

Was it not easier to leave a formal compatibility with the past?

No one should have rewritten everything. porting would have been easier.

Can you indicate the discussion thread where this choice was approved?

thank you.

[Qgis-developer] About QGIS-*.DMP files in Temp folder on Windows

2016-11-09 Thread Geo DrinX
Good morning,

purging my PC, I found 1595 files named "qgis-*.dmp" in my Temp
folder.

Totally, they amount to 36 giga of space :(

For example, I have many of:

myUSER\AppData\Local\Temp\qgis-20140915-160805-11200-8480-c3a2817.dmp

each of 23 mega.

So, for each quitting of QGIS since 2.18 from september 05 2014 I had a
crash (also without any plugin installed).

Also, randomically I had crashes.

So, now I am deleting these files, to have space sufficent in my PC to work.

I hope this can be sufficient for you to start a good debug of this
problem, that I have reported more than once.

If you need, I can share that files with you (also if I don't know how).

Oh yes, it's true !You are right. I tested. :(

So I am asking: what is the reason why we did this ?

What you call "feature" is a problem for all those who need to share data
with users who have an older version of QGIS, for one reason or another.

I am wrong ? What do you think ?

[Qgis-developer] Sandboxing python

2016-10-17 Thread Geo DrinX
Good morning,

somebody has experience with sandboxing ?

This is an urgence of our program. An important competition for software
provision to public authority is ongoing, and a request is the sw
reliability.

So, who of us knows how to armour python ? The current approval mechanism
is not sufficient to support the specific stringent requests of that
contest.

anyone knows and have experimented how to use pypy.org and its sandboxing
?

This means I have my plugins auto-approvated ? Tell me.

>
> We also want to promote a plugin repository that contains code that won't
> remove all files from a user's hard drive or worse
>

I think this is a crime, and it is punishable by law, so there would
be a problem
only for a simple plugin, but for any program, open source, free, and other.

So, unless we do not want to question again the world of programming, this
is a false problem, I thought was passed in open source minds.

I developed iPhone app, and one that I deeply loathed is the approval
mechanism of the app through the Apple Store. But in that case it was
justified (and history has shown this) because iPhone and smartphones in
general are becoming a kind of credit card, with all the necessary safety
precautions necessary.

But in the case of a gis, open or not, the maximum damage that a plugin can do
is produce the prints off the press sheet.
Rather, I would see the most important working upstream python environment,
and the plugin to work in a sand-safe box.

The plugin approval phase is now only a sort of prior censorship, given
into the hand of a dark presenteeism that moves according to his personal
sympathies, with its time and its summary judgments.

That aside, let's describe what I think should happen:

1) In the upload page of the plugin should be included a clear warning that
explains what the rules (possibly in several languages).

2) Only after you have answered affirmatively to the request for acceptance
of the rules, and having filled a registry programmer, which assumes
its responsibilities
clear (thus taking away from the main program) the programmer can send the
plugin.

3) On dobrebbe servers exist an automatic procedure (antivirus, automatic
control sources to figure out harmful instructions, etc.) that warns the
existence of problems.

4) The plugin is immediately available to users, who can report in case of
malfunctions.

5) The GIS program has a python version controlled, which prevents damage to
the operating system and more.

This is what I think should be done, not to be left to the stone age. :)

I don't want to reduce the problem to a personal one, but I think that an
author, that is a programmer that reaches 171128 downloads, could be
considered trusted.

But the problem is, instead, another, and I have a curiosity: what is the
real danger you think can happens from an open gis ? You really have
discussed this ?;)
I don't think you are serious.

I have, instead a real problem you need to discuss: You well know that
there is an important problem with SHP corruption.

True ? I know this is true. And also you know.

And, you know there is a "minidump" problem at exit, and randomically
during running. And this problem is a memory problem.

True ? You well know this is true. Also I know that nobody knows from
what these bugs depend.

Well, I think the efforts and discussions must be used to discover these
problems, instead of plugin approvation, without any technical
preparation.  Not ?

Or, if you need a responsibility to give, let it be python and the
plugins. But, you are out of road. Look better in C++ source code,
expecially where memory pointers are not released, and used out of
functions.  Perhaps.

Good night

Well, good question. I thank you for making me the question.

My opinion is : There is no need to have an approval process. What is it
for ?
Who judges the job, maybe months, another programmer, who is giving to the
community that has developed because of its usefulness ?
Maybe Richard Stallman ? By chance Gary Sherman ?
Probably would not do it even they.

I think right now the approval of the plugin is only a manifestation of
power.

It is nothing but this.

Imagine Wikipedia and prior approval. It would be composed of only ten
pages.
Imagine OpenStreetMap. Only two roads. Other than free map of the world !

Make free plugins. As long as you are on time.

[Qgis-developer] About my plugins ...

2016-10-14 Thread Geo DrinX
Good morning   :)

I am here to inform you that I just removed from the repository the latest
plugin version 3.0.4 of GEarthView, and also other my plugins.

I have taken this decision to draw your attention on the mechanism of the
plugin approval, which I think is totally insufficient and inadequate.

I recommend you review this procedure and pay more attention to whom is
dealing, which should be a technical, and not another.

I am sorry for the difficulties that my decision will cause to unsuspecting
users of my plugin, but they can continue to download my plugin from my
official repository on github.

I thank you for your attention

Re: [Qgis-developer] New GEarthView 3.0.4 version

2016-10-11 Thread Geo DrinX
Hello All,

as in object, I released some day ago ( october 6 - 2016) a new version
of  GEarthView plugin for QuantumGIS.

This 3.0.4 version has some interesting new for many of the tens of
thousands of users who use it habitually.

The first new function permits to digitize in 3D taking measures in
GoogleEarth PRO.

The second function permits to display Extruded Buildings in GoogleEarth,
from QuantumGIS polygon elements.

The third function permits to hilite the polygon or extrusion elements
moving the cursor inside them in GoogleEarth.

Who wants test this new version can download it from my github:

Serioulsly, do you have some plugin active ? Do you tested with

Do you can try renaming .qgis2 directory, so that we are sure QGIS do

2016-08-29 Thread Geo DrinX
Alvaro,

as I can see in github repository, at:

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/compare/master...ahuarte47:Feature_MultimapView

As I can see, your MultimapView will change many calls, adding parameters.
I suppose therefore that almost all plugins will have to take account of
these new parameters and need to be changed, it is no longer compatible.
We can not adopt a "soft" technique, in the sense that new parameters can be
optional ?

[Qgis-developer] Error returned installing QGIS 2.12

2015-11-04 Thread Geo DrinX
Hello all,

an user tells me that he had an error installing QGIS 2.12 64 bit on
Windows 7.

This is the capture screeen during error:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By5p_WoL_LoFRlUzVDNtcWEwTlk/view?usp=sharing

He has oracle client installed. Perhaps, it cannot rewrite the oracle dll ?

Somebody other had and solved this error ? And in case how ?

That because after the error, the install terminates unsuccesfully :(

Thank you in advance for any info about this

[Qgis-developer] PluginBuilder writes a wrong import inside .py

2015-11-03 Thread Geo DrinX
Hello all,

probably you just know, but I found that "PluginBuilder" plugin for QGIS
writes at line 26 of the main .py file the following code:

import resources

I think this is wrong, because in run it returns a python error.

The correct code is:

import resources_rc

I hope this helps to create new and useful plugins .

Thank you in advance for attention

In my case ( GEarthView QGIS plugin ) I have two external libraries:

twisted
zope

that I need to install manually :(

On windows, they need to be copied for each new version of QGIS, inside
the folder:

QGIS VERSION\apps\Python27\Lib\site-packages\

Instead, on MacOSX, they are (once and for all) inside the standard
python library folder, as I explained in my blog:

http://exporttocanoma.blogspot.it/2015/01/gearthview-20-plugin-per-qgis.html

I have tried several times to make sure that it was not necessary to
install anything, including the libraries in my plugins, so far I have not
succeeded. So, that your message has rekindled my hopes :)but there
are some things I do not understand, in your explanation (my fault).

Here are my steps:

1) I modified my  geodrinx/__init__.py  adding:

site.addsitedir(os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(__file__) + '/ext-libs'))

Question: where need I to create this ext-libs folder ?I looked
into the plugin that you indicate, but I found no "ext-libs" folder.

Could you please explain me (us) better ?

Thank you much

 Exactly, you just need to put the processing plugin under the plugins
 directory.

 But, it do not conflict with the default installed

 Well, I’m not sure if it works the same way on Windows but I suppose it’s

 Hi Roberto,

 again, there is no need to recompile.

 All you need is to grab Processing code from the repository mentioned
 by Marcus [0]. Not all code, only Processing. Look at the python/plugins
 directory. Then put this code into your QGIS plugins directory. Usually
 this
 is ~/.qgis2/python/plugins. That's all.

 After this you can start QGIS as usual and test.

 Hi,

 As Even already said that with gdal 2.0 it is possible to populate an
 options list automatically.
  I think it should be possible that, depending on the GDAL version, we
 already integrate this into the Save As Dialog for people already
 using gdal 2.0 .. and for all others maybe help popups could
 describe where to find info about the options that are possible to
 use. (ok - that should have been done long time ago :) )
 For GDAL 2.0 the text box was on purpose, so that users can enter
 whatever they find on the GDAL webpages and use it.

Side remark. Your plugin probably makes it a bit more convenient, but you
 can
 already get the geometries in WKT format with Save as, select CSV and
 enter
 GEOMETRY=AS_WKT as layer creation option (cf
 http://www.gdal.org/drv_csv.html)

Touche' ,  Even  :)

I do not know that is possible to do the same with save as... :(

BTW, great !There is some documentation for this ? I will browse
QGIS manuals.

Sure, my method is more immediate, and more convenient for my own use.
For the rest of the world, I agree with you : a generic user, can use
Save as... CSV and enter GEOM=ASWKT
and... it does not work ! What is the correct syntax ? I do not
remember: I need to try again... perhaps: GEOMETRY=ASWKT. No, it do
not work again... etcetera.

:)

Yes, I think my plugin can be useful to all of us QGIS dummies:)

If you think, I can insert a message that explains: You can also use
'Save as... CSVGEOMETRY=AS_WKT'

:)

Of course, I am joking.

Even,

I noticed that Plain Geometry Editor plugin (and also my WktExport

 LineStringZ

that of course have also the Z.

This is good for my use (the 3D digitizing) , but I am asking : is it a
new of QGIS 2.10, or it just exists before ?

So, my need is to display these Z, for each point of the lines. There is
a way to do this ? I tried with processing SAGA Shapes-Points
convert lines to points but, the result is a points layer without Z.

Also, Layer property panel do not permits to display the Z value as Label.

Any other suggestion to display Z values ?

I created a new plugin for QGIS that downloads and displays

The data relate to the Italian territory, and are sampled with

I hope this plugin can be useful

Very strange   :(

I inserted also thetriggerRepaint() but nothing changes.

This is my sourcecode:

https://github.com/geodrinx/smartroadsense/blob/master/smartroadsense.py

If I drag and drop in QGIS my srs_data.qlr file, it works.

Instead, from python code, the style is not applied.

Could be because my data file is a CSV ?

  That is the correct way. Have you done the following after applying the
 style?:

 vlayer.triggerRepaint()

 You can test the result of applying the style using:

 result = vlayer.loadNamedStyle(qlrFileName)

 If result if False, the style was not loaded/applied.

2015-04-16 Thread Geo DrinX
 QLR files are not style files

I am trying with a .qml file, but the result is the same : no style
applied using a CSV and python.

Instead, if I use SHP and QML, the style is applied immediately after
loading the SHP.

But, for do this, I should need convert my CSV into SHP every time, before.

Well, I'll do this if there is no alternative.

Or, I will try to define the style of the level directly through python.
Is possible to do this ? I will study.

[Qgis-developer] How to scale a polygon from pyQgis

An extract of source code is the following :

  rect = geom.boundingBox()

  x1 = rect.xMinimum()
  y1 = rect.yMinimum()

  x2 = rect.xMaximum()
  y2 = rect.yMinimum()

  xc = (x2 + x1) / 2.0
  yc = (y2 + y1) / 2.0

elem = geom.asPolygon()

fat = float(scale) / 100.

for i in range(geom.exportToWkt().count(',')):

vertex = geom.vertexAt(i)

x,y = vertex.x(),
vertex.y()

xR, yR = x-xc , y-yc
xS, yS = xR*fat, yR*fat

 xT, yT = xS + xc, yS + yc

 geom.moveVertex(xT, yT, i)

Because the polygon do not change, sure I miss something, to save the
modified element, also if the layer is in editing.

Someone could help me to understand what I wrong ?

 folks calling for a 2.8 LTS version, and others in need for space to
 further develop and expand QGIS' capability.

 And, I might just have found a way to do so. Here's the proposal, in a
 couple of points:

 - We make the 2.8 development cycle “fix and refinement”-only, and reduce
 the cycle's length to 6 to 8 weeks;
 - The reduced cycle will help everyone's focus on the above goal;
 - We append the freed 8-10 weeks to the subsequent development cycle,
 which would become QGIS 3.0;
 - The expanded cycle will help give space to develop some of the exciting
 features being cooked by developers (Nyall's Layouts, Marco's Geometry
 redesign, etc.) and bulletproof those.

 This, IMHO, caters to both groups demanding stability and space for
 development. It doesn't discourage or delay too much the grand scheme
 changes, and pushes out a 2.8 version focused on stability through a
 shorter cycle focusing on delivering a perfected tool.

 The above proposal does require a momentary lapse of the nice 4-month
 release cycle rhythm which the QGIS has successfully maintained for three
 releases now. But, it might actually be what's needed at this very time.
 Plus, the length of the two cycles stays the same, 8 months.

 Comments? I'm obviously particularly interested in what Jürgen has to say
 :)

 Cheers

 Math

Giovanni,

try (backup) and delete the .qgis2 folder, I have seen this a lot on
 qgis installations where qgis was previously installed, and purging
 .qgis2 usually works.

Great !!! :) Now it works.I will test inserting plugins one by
one.

I updated the issue list

[Qgis-developer] VTerrain plugin version 1.0.1

2014-11-07 Thread Geo DrinX
Hello,

I Submitted the new version of VTerrain inserting github as a repository and
tracker.

However, I did a stupid thing: I accidentally deleted the entire project
VTerrain in qgis repository (while I wanted to delete only the last version)
.

Then I re-created by inserting the latest version. So now, I lost the
historic version :(

Too bad. My question is: Can you recover?

OK, anyway, please see if it is in place and is approvable.

Thank you

 Hello Roberto,

 the guide I posted quite a while ago for QGIS 1.8 is still valid for all
 current versions.

 http://conservationecology.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/24072013_howtoinstallscipyforqgis.pdf
 Basically you need to specifically select numpy + scipy during the
 installation of QGIS.

Re: [Qgis-developer] Render with labels

2014-10-06 Thread Geo DrinX
Hello,

Sorry if I repeat my question that I sent some time ago, but it seems
very relevant
to the topic.

I noticed that using the.render()function with pyQgis 2.2
the labels are not  visible.

This is my test source code (taken from my GEarthView plugin):

iface = qgis.utils.iface

mapRenderer = mapCanvas.mapRenderer()
mapRect = mapRenderer.extent()
width = mapRenderer.width()
height = mapRenderer.height()
srs = mapRenderer.destinationCrs()

# create output image and initialize it
image = QImage(QSize(width, height), QImage.Format_ARGB32)
image.fill(0)

#adjust map canvas (renderer) to the image size and render
imagePainter = QPainter(image)

zoom = 1
target_dpi = int(round(zoom * mapRenderer.outputDpi()))

mapRenderer.setOutputSize(QSize(width, height), target_dpi)

mapRenderer.render(imagePainter)
imagePainter.end()

xN = mapRect.xMinimum()
yN = mapRect.yMinimum()

nomePNG = (TestImage)

input_file = out_folder + / + nomePNG + .png

image.save(input_file, png)

So, my question is : how need to change my code to have labels again
visible ?

:)

Thank you for any link and answer

Roberto

 Thanks a lot Larry! I'll give it a try!

  Feel free to add this to the Cookbook. However, the API for labeling may
 change during the 2.7 dev cycle, if rule- and style-based labeling is
 introduced.

 You mean it will change without breaking it? ;-)

 Best wishes,

 works with custom dpi and labels

Great !Thank you also to Martin :)

I am studing your source code...

BTW, are qgsmaprendererjob classes introduced from 2.4 version ?

In that case, I need to use a conditional like this :

Somebody can test it and confirm ?Perhaps , it was introduced some

Re: [Qgis-developer] Module dependencies

2014-09-25 Thread Geo DrinX
About the python dependencies, I propose to share a list of dependencies of
the plugin, where everyone can add and propose those necessary to its
plugin.

This list could then be taken into consideration during the release of the
new version of QGIS, which may already contain them.

For example, I (will) need of :

qtreactor
twisted
zope

It is impossible to add them to QGIS ?
