Yes, just found it.

Spot the error, i mean Aurora, not SuperHermes but I guess the answer
is
the same, i.e. Yes.

I can see I'm going to have fun with this machine :-)

Yes you can, observing the necessary slave/master jumper - presumably
slave as I guess you have a hard disk as master. Cable select is *not*
the one for Qubide - not nearly modern enough for that.

*not* earth. Do you not have a manual - essential really for use.
It normally goes on the expansion (J1) connector three from the back on
the top row. That is a good place for it, even though Aurora has a
jumper to replace it. Do *not* simply cut it off as a lot do. If you
are using the Aurora jumper, then tape over the end.

Yes you can.

Re: [ql-users] Aurora CD Rom Drive / superHermes Question

2007-01-09 Thread Neil Riley
Aha, I guess this could be relevant "The Aurora has been designed with
SuperHermes in mind,
so instead of the flying lead, you have to put a jumper ( wool or
nylon? :-) on the two pins you
will find right beside the ZX8302 chip. to the left of it and along the
edge of the Aurora board.
This jumper has the same function as the flying lead, so you do not
have to use it any more"

I guess that answers the hook question.

I used to have one of these ( still do ) I think best NOT to connect
the
hook to earth or case. think we need Tony to interrupt here, pretty
sure it
is to do with SH and maybe the clock battery ( could be wrong it was a
time
ago)
Did like Aurora though nice speedy display I thought.

[ql-users] Aurora CD Rom Drive / superHermes Question

2007-01-09 Thread Neil Riley
Belated Happy New Year to you all.

Well, my Aurora finally arrived and I'm now in the process of putting
it all back together.

The first thing I've noticed is the CD Rom Drive has seen better days,
the buttons are
sunken ( which may be fixable ) but when i tried to insert a cd ( auto
loader ). It wasn't
hungry and decided to sink it's teeth into the once nice shiny disc so
there is now an additional
wide arc'd set of scratches, not a good start.

however, whilst i haven't attached a monitor as yet ( no external SVGA
connector but there does
appear to be something that looks like one dangling loose on the inside
! ), There is a TTL connector
so i shall use that. I hope to attach a PC monitor at some point so i
can 'share' my monitor in work
with my QL ( need a KVM switch for that ) don't tell the boss !

I do have a couple of question which I'm hoping someone will know he
answer to.

Can i mearly replace this CD drive with any old PC rom drive assuming
the connectors
are the same.

There is a small thin black wire coming off the superHermes that has
what looks like a small screwdriver at the end
but is in fact a Hook of sorts. I assume i need to attach this hook
onto something (the case? earth?).

I managed to snap one of the legs from the SGC battery ( don't ask )
and have ordered a new one but an i
correcting in thinking that i could happily use the SuperHermes minus
the battery in place, accepting the lack of
date time being remembered etc.

OK, I'm out of questions for the moment, no doubt I'll have more.

Thank You

Neil

In the old days I thought there was a connection with "Waiting for Baudot"
(who never comes). At 300 bps I suppose this was not far off.

If I remember right, Baud is the signalling rate - and is only equal to
bit rate when the 'signals' are binary, which is not a given.
