[Ql-Users] Mailing list [OT]
Im with another group who are considering a mailing list. This list has worked very well in recent years (regular, free, no spam, no ads). But I cant find out whos hosting it, unless it is QVD himself. So, how /where do I set about setting up such a list? TIA Per ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
Re: [Ql-Users] Memory contention (CPU / ULA)

I'm no hardware guy, but I'm pretty sure the ULA locks ALL internal memory during screen refresh, i.e. depending on model (EU/US) 50 or 60 times per second. The CPU cannot access anything at all during these times. OK, I will measure read/write time in the vram anyway. ULA should somehow share bus with CPU, it should not lock memory the whole TV frame refresh. The actual sharing is quite complex and effectively slows down the CPU access buy some 40% or so, unless there is shadowing involved, like with the GC and SGC. The ULA actually requests the bus only during the active display portion of the whole screen raster generated. The total raster generated is 640x312 of which 512x256 is used, so the ULA requests the bus about 66% of each frame (one frame takes 20ms). During this time the ULA reads screen RAm bytes in bursts of 4 bytes each, to it's internal buffer. It uses page mode DRAM access to do so, otherwise it would take approximately twice the time. Depending on the synch between the CU bus cycles and the ULA timing, at best the CPU can get 50% of available memory bandwidth, and usually less. When all is said and done, you come out with about 50-60% bandwidth long term. It shoul dbe mnoted that this is true for the whole 128k of internal RAM, even though the screen memory cannod reside in the second 64k - the ULA logic must have been a really tight squeeze because it would have been very easy to add a screen 2 and 3... Some memory expansions like the Trump Card are not as limited, you do not get any delays accessing the extended RAM there. Most RAM expansions (the notable exception being some schemes which used internal piggy-back RAM expansion also driven by the ULA) are considerably faster. Expanderam/TrumpCard are not as fast as they could be but a great deal faster than the ULA addressed RAM. SuperQboard was known as the fastest, running at the full speed of the CPU. Re: [Ql-Users] QL on YouTube
Hi Roy, I sent you a private mail, surfice to say I just spent 3 hours of my working day enjoying that site. For those of you that don't know (and lets face it, you have to be fairly stupid not to) Roys life has been spent in Music - both on and off stage, Hes a damn good vocalist in my opinion. Hes also roadied and Sound engineered for the best of them (I could name drop here but we're far enough off topic already!) One of the best evenings (in fact, weekends) I ever spent was after a QL meet here in Ireland when Everyone who attended had gone home, and Roy and Myself had a whole day to fill. We were picking up Roys son the following morning, who was staying with friends of Roys near Dublin. We ended up sitting drinking a lot of Beer and Red Wine on the Seafront near Bray, near where I used to live, with Roy telling story after story of his roadie days - hilarious all of them. Really enjoyable day. I always Said he should write a book. Darren. SNIP Maybe its time to have another Irish QL Show Pi**-Up again?? Any takers?? In the lovely West of Ireland this time, of Course.. I'll be there - we have not met up in a while. By the way, Darren, have a look at www.woodenlion.com if you have not done that in a while. Drop me a private email and I will send you something. Now that is puzzling the rest of you isn't it? Definitely off topic - non QL. ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

Re: [Ql-Users] QL on YouTube
Not that I know of - Roy? However he has worked with Manfred Mann, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel, Gary Glitter, and the man himself - Ozzy Osbourne, among many many others. I still have a signed UDO Album and T-Shirt Roy gave me from his tour that Roy did sound on ( I was a huge Accept fan in my teens - Udo Dirkschnider was the lead singer) I could go on and on and on I'm impressed ! Did he / they ever do a session for John Peel ( top gear ) ? Re: [Ql-Users] QL on YouTube - QL 2002 DVD now online
The QL 2002 DVD is now available to view for free online at YouTube. Both in Low Res (for dial-up users, although some problems may persist - Video and 56K Dial-up generally don't work well) and the full DVD high res quality versions. Its been split into manageable chunks to aid viewing, all less than 7 or 8 minutes each. Just search for QL2002DVD and you'll find all of them - we welcome feedback. Thanks to Steve Reyal who spent a lot of time transcoding it over the weekend - enjoy. Darren. Dilwyn Jones wrote: Not much QL, if any QL stuff on YouTube? Think so... Re: [Ql-Users] QL on YouTube (Now wayyyy off Topic!)
Oh Dear, I knew when I pressed the send button I should have put the last bit in a private mail. We were never that famous but thanks for all the compliments Darren - not sure I can quite live up to them but... I can tell you all about it when we meet at the Irish QL Pish Up - I have other reasons form wanting that as you know. (Maybe I should put that in another email - it is just the Irish hospitality - honest.) Anyhow I am rambling. Organise a show go on. Before Christmas would be great. Private mail will follow. In message [EMAIL PROTECTED], Darren Branagh - Kingfisher Club [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes He does have a drummer, and the most amazing guitarist in Steve Bensusan (he even has a cool name!!) they are very close to starting gigging again, and have been rehearsing a lot. Would love to see them live. I have a Roy Weard and Last Post album, and its brilliant. I listen to it all the time. Thats not blowing smoke - I'm a huge Music buff with over 1,500 CD's, Vinyl and Cassettes at home. Actually, it was through music that Roy got into QL's (I think) - he used to use one to do stage design layouts on as a roadie. In fact, I think a lot of his stage designs are now in the QUANTA Library. And in his early days, he had a bigger beard than Tony!! Darren.
