You can download QemuFast from
http://users.infoconex.com/daniele/win/QemuFast.zip. Put QemuFast.exe in the
same directory as Q-emuLator and run it directly by double-clicking on it.
If you run it on a PC where Q-emuLator has already been installed and
registered ("Expanded" registration), the same registration will
automatically activate QemuFast (until end of May).

I don't know if you are going to get it, Daniele's :-
Q-emuLator 2.3.3 for Windows is now available at
http://users.infoconex.com/daniele/winql.html. The update is free for
registered users.
Changes since last version:
- Keyboard emulation is now compatible with Windows dead keys when using
Sinclair or Minerva ROMs.
- Completed keyboard emulation for non-standard QL ROMs.
- Q-emuLator now accepts non-standard ROMs up to 80KB long, and expansion
ROMs up to 32KB long.
- Fixed microdrive copy protection emulation (it was failing on fast PCs).
- Improved user manual in PDF format (courtesy of Phoebus Dokos).
- Added setup program to install/uninstall Q-emuLator.
A minor update to the Mac 68K version is also available, as I was able to
compile it again by using a Mac emulator for Windows. You can download it at
http://users.infoconex.com/daniele/MacQL.html.
I would so much like a swift Minerva but chickened out with the
international payment problem. If you go for it count me in for a copy !

In theory for different setups you just need different smsqe.bin
files. For example a smsqe-xyz.bin and then starting QPC using the
"-os smsqe-xyz.bin" option. To avoid using the command line one could
create a shortcut that contains the options.
But different directories is probably more straight forward to use
for most people.

If different boot configurations is the only thing you need:
determining on which PC you run can be done using the QPC_NETNAME$
function. Just using different configurations can be done using the
QPC_CMDLINE$ function and the corresponding command line parameter
"-cmdline xyz" (again can be done using a shortcut to the QPC2.EXE).

> But can you share files between multiple QCPs? I haven't tried this

3 cases:

- Multiple QPCs point to the same QXL.WIN, but don't run at the same
time: no problem
- Multiple QPCs point to the same QXL.WIN and run at the same time,
but do not access the .WIN files at the same time: works if both are
told to share the file using "WIN_REMV x,1" (only needed if file is
local, not if it's on a network share).
- Multiple QPCs point to the same QXL.WIN, run at the same time and
both want to access files at the same time: works if the QXL.WIN file
is write protected.

IIRC Ken said it was dot forwardslash for current directory and dot dot
forwardslash for root or next step up.
** NO - I said backslash - Ken**
It should be possible to have different QPC setups on the same drive by
having each in its own copy of your QPC2 folder (suitably renamed) and
putting a qlwinfile (say win1) containing boot in that folder, directing
QPC2.exe to it with dot backslash or by default (ie no path). The different
folders would hold different win1s.
You could then have a qlwinfile (say win2) holding common data or
applications in the parent directory, and direct to it using dot dot
backslash. But can you share files between multiple QCPs?
I haven't tried this yet.

Since my email on this earlier today I've tried again and can't get
consistent results. Sometimes it work, sometimes it reverts to the error
message about the base directory of dos1_ being invalid.

Unix and Linux.
Websites are mainly run under Unix/Linux, hence the forward slash (/) in
URLs.

The \ from windows is a real hassle, as backslash is a standard
programming escape character (in perl and others).

Windows paths used in say perl have to be:

c:\\path\\filename

c:\path\filename would get parsed as "c:pathfilename"

A real pain.
... but that is how I can remember it (8-)#

OK, try this.

Start QPC2 from memory stick (E:\QPC2\QPC2.EXE in my case). In the
configuration dialogue:

Set Win1_ to be QXL.WIN (no drive/folder name)

Set Dos1_ to be nothing (a blank entry)

Save this configuration. OK to start. DOS1_ will give a list of either current
directory or root and give a sector count of 0/0, whcih makes you think it
works.

Quit from QPC2. Restart it, click on OK (i.e. don't configure this time). This
second time it's run you'll get the "base directory of dos1_ is invalid" error
message and you can't enter QPC2.

It's almost as though your illegal entry you configured and saved during the
first startup is only spotted the second time you run it.

Re: Re: [ql-users] QPC on a Stick

OK, thank you.

I have used QPC2 from a USB memory stick before, but always with absolute
paths. Using relative paths is a great idea, since it works around the problem
that the USB memory stick appears as different drive letters on different
computers. For example, it's drive E:\ here at work, but drive J:\ at home
because I have a camera memory card reader tying up a drive letter for each of
its four card slots.

WHat I found usefulw as to redefine WIN8_ and DOS8_ to be absolute paths
C:\QXL.WIN and C:\ respectively. Allows the memory stick QPC2 to access the
hard drive on the host computer if the need arises.

Relative paths seem to work fine with WIN devices, but not with DOS. If I set
DOS1_ to be blank or to be ./ (i.e. use current path) or to be ../ (use next
level up - root of drive) QPC2 complains "Base directory of DOS1_ invalid." If
I try to save any corrections (i.e. restore normal drives) after this error,
next time it's started the changes seem to be ignored, next time after that
they seem to appear OK. I am a bit mystified, the only thing I can think of is
that th ememory stick is a bit slow, so I am starting it too quick before it's
finished saving or something.

Anyone got relative paths to work properly for DOS devices?

When I get a chance, I'll write down the sequence of entries to show the error
in QPC2 to Marcel to see if he can shed any light on it.

Basically, the set up when the error occurs is:

WIN DOS
1 QXL.WIN either left blank, or ./ or ../
2 D:\QXL.WIN D:\
3 E:\QXL.WIN E:\
4 F:\QXL.WIN F:\
5 G:\QXL.WIN G:\
6 H:\QXL.WIN H:\
7 I:\QXL.WIN I:\
8 C:\QXL.WIN C:\

Might "Base directory of DOS1_ is invalid" have anything to do with the fact
that the drive letters are out of order, or DOS drives must have an absolute
drive reference?
