tried delivery to another user with the same setup, which worked
fine.
Any ideas?

SGID. Is 502 the GID for the group nofiles? Does
$NOFILESGID contain more than that number?

qmail-inject
configuration qmail-inject is unable to read,
all files in /var/qmail/control are readable and qmail-showctl does
not issue any error message.
Any hints to further reading are welcome.

Love your enemies: they'll go
or with the
emails recipient?
Should I post the output of qmail-showctl? I don't want to waste
bandwidth and to me it seems OK.

Chicken Little was right.
with
mail.* -/some/logfile
look for the qmail-messages in that logfile. In the line similar to
*.*;mail.none;news.none -/var/log/messages
you have to remove mail.none to get the qmail-logs into
/var/log/messages.

Any legitimate suggestions?
Seems you haven't got /var/qmail/bin in your path. Try
/var/qmail/bin/maildirmake $HOME/Maildir

Computational Mathematics

Is there any way of making qmail being a little more stubborn? Make it
try again later etc.
Read FAQ 4.9.

Afternoon very favorable for romance. Try a single person for a
change.
-directories
are mounted via NFS or the passwords are managed by NIS or similar.
During a NFS or NIS outage the messages would bounce if the users
were not known locally. This way the message is deferred until NFS
is up again.
You might want to look at 4.9 in the FAQ.
