[qmailtoaster] Spamassassin Issue with Headers
Hello all, Our spam system which is qmailtoaster based, running on FC5 is working really well. However we have just added a new domain to it, and one of the users is getting a large amount of untagged spam. At least for our system it is a large amount. Roughly 10 to 15% of the spam is coming through untagged. I asked him to forward me some of them for review so I could check the headers and see what the system was doing. First strange thing was that mailing directly to me, detected them as spam correctly. When I check the headers of the forwarded (as attachments) mail, they are incorrect. Below is on of the mails headers, it seems to be text from the body of the mail. Most of the missed ones are like this. [qmailtoaster] hardening qmailtoaster
Hi; I've searched the list on this subject before posting, and there is little mention of it. I was wondering if anyone has tried hardening their toaster with Bastille, or any other hardening tool. Besides the normal shutting down of services via chkconfig, and locking down important files with chattr, and iptables. Has anyone run Bastille hardening tool after the installation of toaster. And if so, pros/cons, please. I have written a tutorial/reminder on server hardening, but, I'm not sure if this would suffice for a toaster install, I'm not sure if it would interfere with user rights, perhaps even lock the server too much. If anyone is interested you can check it out at: (http://canus.org/index.php?module=htmlpagesfunc=displaypid=4) Please, note, I'm not an Linux Admin like many of you, so, perhaps it may be simple for you. [qmailtoaster] backscatter
hey guys, can anyone shed light on my dilemma please.i have one toaster which is the primary mx. i have an account with rollernet for their free backup mx. so whenever my primary is down, the backup will take over then deliver them to my primary when it is up. the problem is some e-mails are rejected due to its spam nature then this bounces to rollernet which doesn't like this because they are getting e-mails they did not send. how do i prevent this from happening? of course i still want spam filtering. do i just put rollernet to spamassassin whitelist? its kinda hard to test since testing means i would have to take down my toaster. Thanks in advance.

If no one else gets to it this weekend, I'll reformat and post on the site. - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [qmailtoaster] backscatter
slamp slamp wrote: hey guys, can anyone shed light on my dilemma please. i have one toaster which is the primary mx. i have an account with rollernet for their free backup mx. so whenever my primary is down, the backup will take over then deliver them to my primary when it is up. the problem is some e-mails are rejected due to its spam nature then this bounces to rollernet which doesn't like this because they are getting e-mails they did not send. how do i prevent this from happening? of course i still want spam filtering. do i just put rollernet to spamassassin whitelist? its kinda hard to test since testing means i would have to take down my toaster. Thanks in advance. Most spammers (and Exchange machines if I remember right) do not deliver to the main MX by default. They deliver to the lowest that is available, which in your case would be your rollernet backup MX. You could try whitelisting their domain. I'd be curious to see how that worked. - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[qmailtoaster] qmailtoaster-plus
We are happy to announce the release of qmailtoaster-plus 0.1. This is an RPM that will install a menu to add some additional features and utilities to your Toaster install that Eric Shubes and I have gathered/written. Special thanks go to Erik Espinoza - without you we wouldn't have a RPM to release; just a bunch of scripts! Thanks!!! This is an initial release, version 0.1-1.3.1. We put some of the more asked for things from new users into this release. This includes: backup/restore scripts install Rules du Jour (including cron updates) Loose/Moderate RBLs to check emails against Moderate/Aggressive RBLs to check emails against qmail-spam, a spam daemon control script qmlog, a tool to read your logs easier newmodel, a script to update your Toaster while minimizing downtime The menu system uses the dialog package, but if you do not have this installed it will install it via yum the first time you run it. Everything should be pretty self explanitory. If you find any bugs, please send myself or Eric an email off list. We will be setting up a web page for the package soon, where you can view the current release notes, change logs, and features as well as obtain the newest version. We will also have an area where we will take suggestions for additions to the package. In the meantime, if there is something you would like to see added to the package that others may benefit from, send either Eric or myself an email and we will make note of it. Thanks and enjoy! ** the next estimated release date with new features is going to be October 23rd - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[qmailtoaster] Call to C programmers.....
Jared Markell has contacted me off list to hopefully rewrite the vqAdmin package to work with the new version of Toaster. The PHP coding for the website is covered, but we need some help writing some C programs to be run in the background by the PHP scripts. The C programs will (verbatim) be called with a list of arguments and pass those arguments along to the appropriate vpopmail program to provide a level of separation between the web page and the programs to modify domains. If you would be willing to help out with this endeavor (and are a decent C programmer grin), please contact me off list and we will start to pull resources together to solve this. Re: [qmailtoaster] hardening qmailtoaster
I've run Bastille, and found that it did not affect my Qmail installation in any way, but that many of the changes that Bastille proposes are well explained and do enhance the security of the box. Chris Marcellin wrote: Hi; I've searched the list on this subject before posting, and there is little mention of it. Tell me what you think!
