We use iptables to set the source IP address for outgoing smtp traffic. It has

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -p tcp -m --dport 25 -j SNAT --to-source

That's ok, if all of your traffic is of the same 'type'.
Sometimes it's required to generate mail traffic from one host serving
different purposes. Good example from real life are out corporate
mailing list servers. Their mail queue rarely gets lower that 10
mails in it, resulting in relatively slow message delivery (it takes
long enough for qmail-send to check up status of all the messages in
queue). But it required for us to have some of the messages in queue
to be delivered ASAP - most notably this are urgent messages for root
about errors in Cron jobs, or notifications from Nagios-like services.

Best approach in this case is to fork another QT installation, placed
let's say in /var/qmaillist, that is only serving outgoing mailing
lists. Then, I need to route mail traffic for these two instances of
QT differently, which can only be done on router/firewall if outgoing
mail traffic gets sent from different IPs on the same server.
ATM there's no way in qmail-send to specify which interface to use.
That's what brings me into thinking about implementing a patch for
this task.

check your /var/log/qmail/send/current file, see what it says in
there.. Maybe do a qmailctl doqueue first to force the queue to try to
send them again first, then hopefully you'll see some errors on the
send/current file.

Look at /var/qmail/queue/lock. List in my system is:
-rw--- 1 qmails qmail0 lis 22 13:50 sendmutex
-rw-r--r-- 1 qmailr qmail 1024 sty 29 15:12 tcpto
prw--w--w- 1 qmails qmail0 sty 29 15:25 trigger

trigger is very importent. It's not regular file but pipe.

Hi ,,

Thank you so much :)

I fixed my problem

Actually one of our mail box was full [quota exceeded ] due to which all
mails were bouncing back and qmail queue was huge.

I just increased the quota for that user.

Thanks you

Cheers

These are doublebounces. qmail-send sets origin envelop address for
doublebounces to [EMAIL PROTECTED] address. I suppose one of the user accounts on
your system is out of quota, and that's the reason it generates a lot of
bounces.

I solve problem, but it's was close to disaster :(
major telecom operator from today refuse accept mail delivery from
smtp servers with no correct reverse dns entry.
I made mistake, bacuse i add new virtual interface with new IP, and
my reverse smtp dns was gone (wrong) :(

Please can some explain to me, on what rule SMTP choose interface for
sending?

AFAIK, it chooses the LAST available interface on the system (the last
one ifconfig shows). This behavior is something I dislike and I'm
thinking about implementing a patch allowing manual selection of
outgoing IP/port pair to send a message from for qmail-rspawn.
