My company account access from smartphone, pc, vdi with different node.
I was just my imagined 256 is ok.

I do not remember this.
But few people use same account in my case. 
From smartphone, pc , vdi.
So, 50 is ok.
You can also change dovecot.conf.
If it is better, you can use.

I doubt a single user would ever need 256 simultaneous connections, but 
-- judging by the name -- the setting might specify the number of 
connections allowed from a single IP, which would be different.


If you had a large number of users on a NAT'ted network, so that they 
looked to the server as if they were coming in from a single IP, maybe 
bumping the allowed connections up to 256 would make sense?

We use Dovecot now as opposed to Courier IMAP, I'm not sure about that 
question.
