I was following this. Appears I didn't do the database restore for some

I never follow that the IMAP worked pretty well. If you want to specify a set
of what needs to be mapped you could use the toaster.conf
I have Junk for example:
namespace {
mailbox Junk {
auto = create
special_use = \Junk
}
And it works really well.

I have done this while back and it depends on how you are going to sync the
emails. For my point of view you do not need it as Eric stated however If you
are going to do an rsync you may copy files that you will not use anymore.

Dovecot will create all its own files necessary for the IMAP client
