Re: [QUAD-L] Chair Repair

2008-03-24 Thread Stacy Harim

It takes forever for someone to come fix my chair as well. I have a manual
chair and if something goes wrong, I usually end up going to the shop to get
someone there to fix it. I've had the armrest break which is a terrible thing
for me to help with my transfers and I have no balance so a risk of falling and
I've also had one of my casters break on the weekend. That however, I was able
to get someone down here to fix it and Medicare paid for it. I think a lot has
to do with the companies you deal with. I've called Medicare about a couple of
things. Have you tried calling them directly to see whats up? The company
could use things as an excuse so they take time getting there. Just a thought.

I've had dogs growing up and know what it takes. It isn't easy thats for sure.
They require a lot more attention than a cat which I have but it's also nice to
have that friend that can help you out. I am alone alot and having a dog would
be great for me for some company. They would give me a reason to get up in the
morning which I dont have much of one to now except to go to the hospital to
see my mom but that isn't going to be forever. Closing the door which is so
hard for me to do would be amazing and when I have to push long distances and
get tired to help pull me.

When a disabled person gets a dog the simple fact to be considered is someone
has to care for the dog. Be it the disabled individual or a caregiver or a man
down the street. I think some some individuals jump the gun and get a dog b4
they take into account whAt all is involved with the care.

A lot of the smaller repairs like screws, tape such I can go to the hardware
store
around the cornerbuy it. The sales people fix it before I leave the store.

For the larger repairs, I'm in the same boat as yall. Although, I do buy
smaller
items like my Roho Cushion. I want to get an arm that includes a place for my
hand
to be strapped in. That item I will have to order myself send the bill to the
insurance company.

[QUAD-L] chair repair

2008-03-24 Thread RONALD L PRACHT
The answer for chair repairs is to have a backup chair ready to go. I have two
J2 gel cushions also. If you are in a manual chair this is an easier task than
a power. I use a manual daily but have an additional manual chair as well as a
power on standby. I get parts on ebay and from Sportaid...use a vendor only
when i have to. I always keep a new set of casters, seatbelt, bearings, cushion
covers, brakes and anything that goes bad on hand. A bike shop will do some
repairs for you. Also the chair you choose has alot to do with its durability.
Ive got a manual Quickie 2 and the thing is bulletproof. I know the chair like
an old friend and can replace a part long b4 it goes bad just by knowing the
chair.

Get the generic form of Gas-X. You can usually buy it at the super
conglomerate Wal-Mart, I believe it's called gas relief. It's considerably
cheaper than the other one and just as effective.

You are giving urine coming out of the stoma? If so, you might need to put
more fluid in the bulb.

Barbera I had this problem for quite a while, but my urethra eventually
stopped leaking for the most part. Like the others, I believe Ditropan is
probably your best bet. It was a little easier for me to deal with, because
I can put a Texas catheter on the end of my penis.
Good luck and welcome to the list.

 Hi y'all,

I'm new to this group list and have been reading over emails sent out for
the last few days and I have a very important, urgent question.

I've been quadriplegic for nearly 27 years and recently had my plumbing
changed from an indwelling Foley catheter to a suprapubic catheter. I've
been experiencing a lot of problems with this and could use a bunch of good
advice or information from others about this. The biggest problem I now
have is incontinence from the urethra (where the Foley came out of me).

Has anyone out there had similar problems and, if so, what did you learn
or do to try regulating your system?

The surgeon who worked on me is a total asshole and doesn't' provide help
or guidance at all. I need help.

 Thanks,
 Barbara

I usually just get my gas x at Sam's club the things you can get such a
large quantity, although I knows the other generic work the same. I'm sure it
is
much cheaper in generic.
thank you quadius so much for adding this.

I couldn't say medically but kept me from having to manage urine from the
bladder and Supra Pubic. Some place after the bladder was closed off. All
came in one unexpected packaged deal getting the SP. I was imagining having
one tube to one bag on each exit. Glad I was wrong there.
