RE: [QUAD-L] colostomy
I got it done about eight years ago. I have ulcerative colitis and had gotten a bad C. diff infection. Have always used an abdominal binder, and afterword had to find one with a sort of cutout ring in it to work a colostomy bag through. It was a major hassle but all is well now. Happy to answer questions. __ BEN MATTLIN www.BenMattlin.com www.MiracleBoyGrowsUp.com From: Quadius [mailto:quad...@gmail.com] Sent: Sunday, May 10, 2015 4:05 PM To: quad-list Subject: [QUAD-L] colostomy I'm doing this little backwards, but I have a scheduled date for my colostomy surgery and would like to hear from individuals who have a colostomy, especially those who wear abdominal binders. Larry, I also burned my self with a hair dryer in college. I fell asleep with it on while I was in bed and it was blowing on the upper part of my arm, the side facing my body ... where I can't feel. I still have the scar. I fell asleep while driving and totaled my van y hitting a stone wall. I was taken off Valium all at once by my rehab Doc and had insane withdrawal. The wound vac really does work wonders, especially for a deep or tunneling wound. The main thing is to keep a good seal over the wound. The location of the wound has a lot to do with it. I had a sore at the top of my butt crack once. Because of the irregular surface we were never able to get a really secure seal. It was a tremendous help on other wounds though. Re: [QUAD-L] pressure
Its a plus to have a certified RN-Wound Vac. In the beginning the bandage has to be changed and cleaned twice a day and the collection container, vacuum tubes and filters can not be ignored. Smell... is your friendly enemy. The right bandages, a complete seal and side skin that doesn't break down from adhesive. Yes it works, when done right.
