[QUAD-L] Flap surgery and Picc line

2008-12-08 Thread floreen
My husband recently had a flap surgery and is set to come home on Thursday.
He just got his picc line he will be coming home with...I am his
caregiver and will be in charge of giving his antibiotics through the picc
line...has anyone else had to do a picc line before, any tips?

Thanks in advance,

Floreen

Hi flo--- l don't know much about the flap, but as far as the pic line...i was
sent home with one last April- they sent out a nurse to show us how to do
it, plus leave instructions and a call number if you need any help or have
questions, we were worried but my wife caught on to how to do it and it was not
to hard for her. good luck and hope all goes well.

Mine was Dr ordered for a home health nurse *to do* *it*. I've had a PICC
line in at home twice in the last 4 years.

The less my husband has to do (and he is doing 99+% of my daily care) the
better. Are you the same Floreen as on the SCIC list?

I actually just got finished with long term antibiotics and cared for my own
pic line.  I would just do what the nurse tells you to.  She should set it up,
give him  his first dose and show you how to do it.

I hope it all goes well for you,
Stacy

They have you flush it after each dose.  Make sure you follow those
instructions because the pic could get a blood clot then you will really have
problems.  Mine wasn't properly flushed in the hospital and then they had to
call the iv team to my room to get it unclogged.
