*Subject:* Help Us Protect Affordable Health Care for People with
Disabilities!
To prevent going to nursing homes please Call your Senators and
represented and asking them not to include my mandate that will cut care by
capital resources that we need to live independently through the Medicaid
waiver. If you don’t know that congressional hotline I will get it in the
next email to you. You can use this letter to click on it and it will send
your message to me I will send you the 800-number.
Thank you,

Dear Dana,

*Attacks on the* *Affordable Care Act* (ACA) are back, and this time
connected to the latest tax bill.

This week, *the U.S. Senate is debating a tax bill
 that
includes a new provision to repeal the ACA’s individual mandate*. The
Congressional
Budget Office
 said
premiums would increase and the number of Americans insured would decrease
if this ACA provision is repealed.

*Individuals with disabilities and others with pre-existing conditions need
access to affordable, comprehensive health care that protects against
discrimination and includes bans on annual and lifetime limits*.

*Help us protect the ACA*, which Easterseals strongly supports for meeting
our board-approved health care principles
.
*Please click on the line below to write your Senators and also call them*
*TAKE ACTION NOW*:* Ask your Senators to oppose efforts to repeal parts of
the ACA within tax legislation
*.

Thank you,

Joe Kern
Chairman of the Board

Your doing right to get on the list, but don't fool yourself, they are death
houses with people that don't care. Get everyday you can out of one because
they wont take care of you properly. Make it a last resortI would
debate killing myself before entering but probally wouldn't have the guts.

We started talking about looking into a nursing home  for me in case something
should happen to Pete.
I've been terrified for 44 years because of stories I've heard and me visiting
other quad friends in nursing homes.
This year I've been making tough phone calls and visiting places so I will be
informed and take away some fear.

My mom was just put into a nursing home  April 2017 45 minutes away. It is so
very clean, the staff is kind, attentive and compassionate and run and owned by
filipino people.
My insurance is Medicaid and that means there is a 2-3 year waiting list. So
I'm going to fill one out. I can't believe I just typed that last sentence.
Other places have no waiting list at all ... red flag ⛳️ to me.
This place, Merry Heart, has had quads before so I won't be the first.

Anybody have any advice for me?

TESTIMONY CONTINUES IN NURSING HOME BEATING DEATH

Forty-seven-year-old Gayla Smith Wilson is on trial for capital murder in the 2003 murder of 81-year-old Willie Mae Ryan at the Dallas County Nursing Home. State police Investigator Rodger McLemore testified at the trial in El Dorado Wednesday that the elderly woman was beaten in her nursing home bed with a blunt object. McLemore testified that, based on more than 30 years of experience as a police officer, he thought Ryan had suffered blunt trauma from an object such as metal knuckles. Shermika Rainey, another nurses' aide, was charged along with Wilson, but pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison and may testify against Wilson.
