Where are you in MD? Location can be key. I live on the ocean city and have a hard time finding anyone willing to do anything but if you live more into the cities, there is more population, aides, etc... there aren't many aides here and no one wants to drive from Salisbury b/c of the gas prices so like I said location is key but there are aides that do and will deal with those procedures. What duties can privately hired aides in Maryland perform? Can they do bowel care, deal with colostomies, catheterize, deal with SP caths, etc.? There was a news report a few weeks ago that said caregivers need to be licensed to perform such procedures. I've always had my aides perform ALL my personal care...BP, SP Cath, etc. I've never heard a private paid person has rules. Greg What duties can privately hired aides in Maryland perform? That much is true as they are all invasive to YOUR body. Those certified, are using trained and tested in many of those procedures before they are released into the public sector to stick and poke their clients, knowing that dirty nails, viruses and bacteria are ever present in the workplace. Keeping that in mind, I've seen some private home aides that have learn OJT (on the job training) with each client and although they are not certified, are just as good, gentle, sensitive, and knowing as some of those who were trained in a school environment.
