To the original poster, I suggest upgrading to a larger HDD. You most likely
user up all of your space.
Can someone please post a sample of their qubes.xml? I'm missing my templates,
I can't create new AppVMs, and thus I can't manually reconstruct my existing
VMs :(

Laptop. HP 8460p.
I created 2 in the first place, it worked in the guest without an HD. Attached
an HD instead

Qubes crashed a few hours ago, probably due to me trying to open way to
many images in GIMP at once.
After a reboot I cannot open any VM's or the Qube Manager. The network
manager and the tray icon for mounting external disks is also gone.
Trying to open Qube Manager gives an error regarding line

for a fast and cheap refreshing of VMs status.

I am currently trying to get a script working to copy passwords from a password
store VM to different VMs, using qvm-pass.
I tried something like:
qvm-run vmname 'qvm-pass gmail | xclip'
The password is copied to the vm but the command doesn't terminate.
In fact,
qvm-run vmname 'echo
