Best, Pete Hi, You may want to try my new incremental backup tool that works with Qubes: https://github.com/tasket/sparsebak Using LVM snapshot metadata, it finds the volume changes instantly without having to read+hash the whole volume first. Its able to update large 100GB+ volumes in under 10 sec. (i.e. its proportional to the amount of changed data since the last backup) and testers say its pretty stable even in pre-beta. The 'new5' branch also has a new de-duplication feature that we're testing to save even more bandwidth and disk space. The only thing its lacking at this point is built-in encryption, so you'll have to supply that yourself with an encrypted filesystem if you desire it. -- Chris Laprise, tas...@posteo.net https://github.com/tasket https://twitter.com/ttaskett PGP: BEE2 20C5 356E 764A 73EB 4AB3 1DC4 D106 F07F 1886 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Re: [qubes-users] MirageOS as NetVM
miragenetvm@mail2tor: Faq: Can I install Qubes OS on a system without VT-d? Yes. You can even run a NetVM, but you will not benefit from DMA protection for driver domains. On a system without VT-d, everything should work in the same way, except there will be no real security benefit to having a separate NetVM, as an attacker could always use a simple DMA attack to go from the NetVM to Dom0. Nonetheless, all of Qubes’ other security mechanisms, such as qube separation, work without VT-d. Therefore, a system running Qubes will still be significantly more secure than one running Windows, Mac, or Linux, even if it lacks VT-d. Since I only have 3GB RAM on my libreboot laptop, can I use Mirage to function as a NetVM to save memory? A laptop without VT-d and only 3GB RAM will not give you a very enjoyable Qubes experience. That said, you could probably hack it to get it to function, but you'd only be able to run one or two VMs at a time besides your system ones even with Mirage as one of them. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Re: [qubes-users] Qubes source code in Python?
jrsmi...@gmail.com: I was looking at the Qubes source recently and was mildly surprised to see that much of the Qubes-specific code is written in Python. As much as that helps with productivity, I would have thought that the security risks outweigh the benefits. Doesn’t the runtime engine alone present an attacker with a huge surface area compared to C, Rust, Go, and other languages typically used for system level development? I think most of it is in dom0.
