[qubes-users] Qubes installer gives dracut-pre-udev error. (Second mailing attempt.)

2019-08-05 Thread 'interested_in_QubesOS' via qubes-users
Second time I'm posting this because last time the mailing list sent me an
"attachment blocked" message or something like that. I'll try with no
attachment then reply to my own post with the attachment.

I see something almost exactly like what I described below every time I boot up
the installation medium, choosing the option to test media and install. The
only changes I've noticed are the multi-digit numbers. After this it goes to
the loading/testing screen, then to the actual installation configuration menu
as if nothing is wrong... Is that the case, is there nothing wrong?

Legend: Anything in bold means it has changed. (The only things that changed
were the multi-digit numbers.)

[ 9.916342] dracut-pre-udev[472]: rpc.idmapd: conf_reinit: open
("null)", 0_RDOMLY) failed
[ 9.916791] dracut-pre-udev[472]: rpc.idmapd: conf_reinit: open
("null)", 0_RDOMLY) failed
This is displayed twice, seemingly because of sudden resolution change.

Second time I fired up the installation medium (and recorded this part):
[ 9.663112] dracut-pre-udev[471]: rpc.idmapd: conf_reinit: open
("null)", 0_RDOMLY) failed
[ 9.663586] dracut-pre-udev[471]: rpc.idmapd: conf_reinit: open
("null)", 0_RDOMLY) failed
Once again, displayed twice.

The attached video shows what I described.

[qubes-users] AEM readme should have a summary of commands.

2019-07-13 Thread 'interested_in_QubesOS' via qubes-users
Pretty self-explanitory. Send your ideas on how it should be done, if you want.

How I think it should be done: Perhaps have the command summary at the bottom
of the readme and have exactly what a command does beside the command, and at
the top of the readme put a notice of the summary.

I think the summary should always be up to date as well. (duh)

Re: [qubes-users] Will AEM work with UEFI boot (A.K.A. GPT)?

2019-06-13 Thread 'interested_in_QubesOS' via qubes-users
"Yes. Didn't I say that in my first reply?"

No, you said GRUB rather than GRUB2 in your first reply.

Anyway I think I will just leave CSM enabled for installation because many
sources seem to be hinting toward GRUB being needed for AEM (emphasis on
hinting)
and any article or web page on GRUB2 that I've seen doesn't even mention AEM,
plus it will make installation a little bit easier for me personally. There is
also the fact GRUB is easier to configure than GRUB2 as far as I know.

I have added 2 Rich Text File attachments to this reply. One is my original
plan with CSM disabled for installation, the other is with CSM enabled and is
much simpler.

"GRUB2. Should be UEFI with CSM disabled."

As in GRUB2 is needed for AEM?

(Just a good ol' yes or no will do, unless I'm missing an important piece of
info.)

GRUB or GRUB2? Probably seems trivial but avoiding ambiguity makes things
simpler. :-) A question I have to go along with this is what boot loader will
the OS installer give me with CSM disabled?

[qubes-users] Will AEM work with UEFI boot (A.K.A. GPT)?

2019-06-11 Thread 'interested_in_QubesOS' via qubes-users
The ReadMe on github says it is somewhat outdated, however it does not tell me
what information it gives me is outdated.
The bit about AEM not being compatible with (U)EFI boot is what concerns me.
Here is the link:
https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-antievilmaid/blob/master/anti-evil-maid/README

You can also get there from the Qubes documentation page. <(not very specific I
know)

Re: [qubes-users] Want to install graphics card after QubesOS 4.0.1 is installed. Will there be problems?

2019-06-08 Thread 'interested_in_QubesOS' via qubes-users
"Try it first with CSM enabled; reason being Qubes will install in GRUB mode
without it so when you re-enable there wouldn't be a UEFI boot entry."

Will it install MBR with CSM enabled? I only need GPT.
Important note: My CSM doesn't completely switch to legacy boot mode, like some
other (bad) UEFI designs, hence why my Windows 10 install still works with CSM.
It just adds support for older hardware and operating systems.

(Finally realized reply all makes my replies public, R.I.P. hopes and dreams of
those who want to see my previous replies. XD)

[qubes-users] Want to install graphics card after QubesOS 4.0.1 is installed. Will there be problems?

2019-06-06 Thread 'interested_in_QubesOS' via qubes-users
The reason I want to do what the title of this post says is I want to dual
boot, however my graphics card doesn't completely work without CSM and common
wisdom says having that off for installing an OS for a UEFI machine will save
me headache. I also can't change my default GPU, my UEFI changes it
automatically depending on if my graphics card is sloted in.

My plan:
Step 1: Install Qubes OS 4.0.1 with CSM disabled and with no graphics card,
Step 2; do the needed tasks (updating VM's, setting up anti-evil maid, ect.),
Step 3; change CSM setting to enabled in UEFI menu,
Step 4; insert my Nvidia graphics card in the first PCIe slot,
Step 5; after all that start up my PC and install Nouveau drivers in dom0 if
Qubes doesn't already have Nouveau drivers.

Good plan or no? What sort of problem(s) could I come come across, if any?

Unplugging my Windows install hard drive is probably a good idea.
