Re: [qubes-users] Big problem?
Qubes requires quite a bit of work and managing of Linux packages to get running as you would like it. I suggest using a second computer initially that you can use to get familiar with it. I have the same issue with booting into BIOS with an SSD. It boots too fast and I miss the prompt half the time. When you get to the Boot prompt (likely f9) select boot from USB. You'll have option as to where to boot from. You need to have a bootable USB drive on the USB. You can find the directions online. If you have any other issues just shoot me an email directly. I'll walk you through any issues. My email is in the list. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Probably not what you want to hear. I would definitely exhaust all the possibilities on the encryption password before giving up though. I assume that when you installed Qubes you were able to boot from USB, which suggests that your GRUB is set up to boot from USB in priority to HD. So I would try that. If that doesn't work then try booting with the HD removed, and then hot plugging it back again. Re: [qubes-users] Big problem?
First of all I really want to say I appreciate you help. Here are some more details you asked for. I was not able to log in with the qwerty settings( the only letter that could be different was the 'z' that would be a 'w' on my keyboard). My linux knowledge is not so big, sorry for that. When I first installed Qubes i choose the basic 'Install Qubes' option and not 'Test & Media' stuff if i remeber that correctly. I filled in all the requider information and went further. Then it asked me to delete Windows,... to make more place free for Qubes. Then it started the installation. After a while the 'Disk password' came up and that's where i'm stuck right now. If I want windows back Ill guess i have to do it via a USB stick because i deleted Windows to create more space for Qubes? I've first tried to get into my BIOS when my pc starts up. Pressed del, f10 and f11 at the beginning but I did not managed to get into my BIOS... When my pc started up the first thing on my screen I see is the Grub boot menu with: -Qubes, with Xen hypervisor -Advanced options for Qubes(with Xen hypervisor) I can also enter 'e' to edit and press 'c' for a command line. I hope you can help me further. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Nor have you said if you've been able to translate your password into input on qwerty key settings. If you installed Qubes alongside the Windows, then you should be able to boot to Qubes, edit the grub config and end up with a dual boot set-up. If you simply replaced the Windows installation, then you will have to reinstall it, if you insist on Windows. If you took a backup, then you have no problem. If your PC came with Windows preinstalled, then it is likely that there is a rescue partition you can use to reinstall Windows - you can often activate this by hitting a key combination during boot - check your documentation. If you deleted this or can no longer activate it, then you will have to reinstall from some other media - you may be able to boot from DVD or USB, but you will need a Windows install image: you may , or may not, have one of these. If your PC was oem licensed, then almost certainly not, so you will have to acquire one. In general, you should be able to pre-empt the boot and get to your BIOS by mashing keys as the computer boots. It varies, but often smashing DEL repeatedly, or F11, as the PC starts up, may get you to some interrupt, and with luck you should be able to select a boot medium. I don't know what level of Linux knowledge you have, but you could try booting from a liveUSB distro and inspecting the disk to see what partitions you have there. Give us more information on what you did, and what you know, and we may be able to help. As to the suggestion that Windows would be "safer" than Qubes, that's a completely different discussion, best left to another time. Lets focus on getting you working again. unman -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Re: [qubes-users] Big problem?
I've done that before man, it can happen to anybody. Just reinstall qubes from the usb stick again and do the password over, this time one that will work for both keyboard if possible. Or one you can remember how to type on both. I also have a similar issue on raspberry pi where no matter what I do when I reboot ro plug in my kb it goes to uk layout and some keys are diff so in the passwords so I have to use one that works for both. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Re: [qubes-users] Big problem?
I know I could solve it that way but the only thing on my pc I can do right now is to try the 'disk password'. I think there is no way that I can get into my bios from that only screen I can see. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. I will try with qwerty keyboard. But there is no possibilitie to undo the qubes installation and get everything back to my windows? Re: [qubes-users] Big problem?
Yes, When you have to input the decryption key, a lot, if not all of your Operating system isn't loaded yet, so it didn't apply your custom keyboard layout settings yet.
