I had the same problem with a lenovo x1 carbon, there are a lot of threads out
there with this issue, with a lot of fixes (such as update the bios), but for
me I fixed it by disabling the security module (TPM) in bios.

So if you ARE passing through you might want to try running the scanner
software directly from sys-usb to see if you can eliminate the USB
passthrough as a source of problems.

Touchpad is a bit fidgety for me, but it was under Ubuntu also. Brightness
and sound function keys work correctly. Wifi works correctly.

Having trouble even booting on LG Gram 17" (2021) laptop - suspect a
