with associated MIDI files so that someone could, if completely new to
sequencers, get a handle on what it can do and how to use it.

First install BassMIDI and load a soundfont you like to it.

Maybe we are referring to different Proteus's here, because all I know of
are the Proteus 1, 2, and 3, which were pop/rock, orchestral, and world

huge, with over a thousand sounds in its basic playlist, and some of them are
even useful. (it's got a lot of those little snippets of sounds with things
like brass stabs, guitar riffs, and such that can be less usef
