But they are dragging thier feet regarding making the backup tone last
longer on the boom.
The other older players can not be improved on, it's only the boom (of
the old players ) that have an on board real time clock and can function
without any server at all,
making it better than an SB3 in

Why think of these products as anything other than great network music

How easy is the alarm to set/change? This may sound like a silly
question, but I have got used to my Nokia phone as an alarm and I love
the ease of changing the alarm time. As I work shifts and every day can
be different, it becomes a chore to press buttons so many times to
change numbers.

It's very easy to setup especially with the web-UI .
You can have a whole bunch of different alarms preset even if you don't
use them.
You simply set time and wekdays that your alarm is going to be active,
and finaly choose to activate said alarm if you want it.

Hello,
Does anyone know if the Boom remote will also work for the Radio? I
have a boom and it would be silly to have to buy the extra remote when I
have a perfectly good one in the house.
For that matter, would the SB2 remote work with the radio?

^^ Thanks for the info and help.
Any news on the hour-minute count down feature by any chance?
When you say presets, are you referring to the preset buttons on the
front? Can you set the alarm also to be a playlist?
Speaking of the preset buttons. Can you set a preset button to play a
Preset ? i meant playlist or favourites, song mixes, random mixes and a

they're no more reliable as alarm clocks than the original slimp3.
Despite all the marketing and promises, when the network is down the

I've already got a boom in our bedroom but want to get something for the
dining room originally I was looking for another Boom but given the
Radio's released tomorrow I thought this would be an option.
From looking at the two the differences I immediately see are Boom is

Yes, new Radio can be wired.
Radio is mono, but sounds good.
Batteries are (will be) offered as a package of a battery remote
for $49, dunno if one can just buy an extra battery.
I think you hit all the important differences between them.
Comparefeatures/functions:
FYI - The Radio doesn't come with a battery pack. It will be a separate
accessory you can buy. Wasn't sure if you understood that since you
asked about buying a spare battery.
It can be wired.
Radio does not have a subwoofer connector.
You might like the Radio better for the bedroom, and then

Right. This is the question that needs to be answered. Is it too quiet?
Not obnoxious enough? Does it need to play for longer (if so, how long)?

The alarm code has not been touched since before the Boom was released
despite having several outstanding bugs against it. My Boom and SB3
alarms have failed recently for three reasons:
1) The alarm code does not handle the new BBC iPlayer playlists
2) There is a bug in the way it lists
The Squeezebox Radio does not have a special purpose RTC chip, it has a
low power general purpose microcontroller with an accurate crystal. It
also has, like Boom, a backup super-capacitor, which can power that
microcontroller for up to 24 hours when the power goes out to keep time.

Mine is on for 5 minutes before I emerge. At least.

Why should the interaction be any different from the normal
