Are they NiCd? I assumed they would be NiMH given the decent life they
possess. NiCd would be useless very fast.

It helps to cycle of your battery from fully charged to fully
discharged. After fully discharged let the radio sit for an hour before
recharging. Doing this a number of times may help bring your battery
back to its original state. Also remember NiCad batteries need to be
used on a regular basis.
Yeah, I'd not looked. 2200mAh is pretty good anyway, so you won't make
much improvement over that.

Easily searchable on both Amazon and eBay: "Squeezebox radio battery".
The one from HQRP is the same I bought a few years ago and it worked
fine.

It's really a question of how you're using it.
I didn't look at the contents of the battery pack but I would imagine
you can build

I got a NOS battery pack about a year ago and it'll easily do 6 hours.
Use low-cpu codecs, lower volume and wired Ethernet instead of WiFi and
you might eke a bit longer out of it..

My radio with battery is coming up on six years old in April and I still

As already mentioned, 6 hours is the official Logitech estimate. My
experience, when I have had it on long enough at one stretch to run the
battery down to the warning level, is that it has run 9-10 hours. That
is not at full blast but loud enough so I could hear it across the room

The radio can be had without battery, so the program is saved in prom :)

I like my Squeezebox boom very much and would like to have the portable,
battery-powered capability of the radio.
How long does the battery charge last? That is how long between
charging?
If left on until the battery dies, will the programming be wiped out?
TIA

AFAIK, six hours is the official number, but people have reported that
it can even last a couple of hours longer.
