Thanks Mark (and Albert). Have you run RBase on the Linux? How is
performance? He's suspecting overly-opportunistic locking on Windows server
and is hoping for better performance on a Linux, but probably wouldn't try it
unless someone tells me that they've done that and the performance is goo
If you remember, Opportunistic record locking was an issue back in the days
of Windows NT and required changing (in some cases adding) a registry
setting to disable it. One Microsoft support article that shows how to
disable it or to tune it to a particular need:

Karen,I have two databases located on a Synology diskstation, which is Linux based. It is easy to set up a shared folder and has worked well for me. In this scenario, Rbase executables has to be on the workstations. Steve

Ditto, Steve Johnson's experience. The full Synology family of NAS boxes

Does that mean that the EXE can't be in the shared folder and run from the
workstation?

jan,Don't know, I suspect not. Synology is Linux based so the Exe file would not run on the NAS. Having a Microsoft workstation access the Exe file and execute on the workstation would not seem to work either. Registry, linked files, etc. (Hope I understood and answered your question)
