The springs shouldn't interfere with bag installation to do this. Curl the tips
of the straps with your fingers and they will arc through the saddle eyelets ,
avoiding springs.

Patrick, I have a Phil 103, stainless spindle, brand new never used. I
bought it as it was listed as a 115, but was definitely not... Since the
Phil's have a few mm adjustment it both directions, this may work for you.

the issue is that the springs themselves take up about 2-3 inches of real
estate so a saddle bag can't tuck up under the seat. The net effect is the
whole bag hangs lower and further aft and rubs on the rear tire.
The wheels are kind of a problem in my mind. Twin hollow wheels with Deore
hubs just aren't all that desireable and wheels cost so darn much to ship.
If you part it out, you might end up setting up that wheelset as a second
set for your Hillborne. A twin-hollow wheelset is a cool option for

I'll second Tom's message and say that even small bikes with standard
length chainstays often need extra long struts to reach down to the seat
stay eyelets while keeping the top of the rack level, so I can see how your
bike is way out there vis a vis rack compatibility. I wonder if the 42cm
