I ran a shop for ten years. Not bemoaning others' co-op of Riv-esqueness,
it's much better a paradigm for the run of the mill cyclist. It was the

I've got one nagging detail to resolve before I can commit, and it isn't

Berthoud still makes a nice mid fork rack. Not as snazzy looking as the

The welds are not very smooth, visible in Soma's photo. The rack also sits
high above the wheel/fender. As it's not adjustable, there's not much to do
about that. I ended up using it with p-clamps on another bike and had to
install the fork crown strut upside down and bent around to get a

I actually really like this rack. It's stiffer than a Mark's rack, but
still has an adjustable strut to the fork crown. The strut is
well-designed, to avoid interference with the fork crown race. And it's the
ideal rack for a bike with 38mm 700 C tires (i.e. Barlow Pass, Ocean

I've got one that I would trade you if yours is 26.0. Mine's nitto

it's definitely taller than most stems.

agree, rather than breaking a fastener, you're apt to lose one from
looseness. Mud is the worst for corrosion. A reasonable cleaning schedule
with Boeshield will limit any problems from corrosion.

I'll add that the Soma works just fine once setup.
My comments about the finish might've come off too harsh. It's a nice rack, but
it's as expensive (or more) than similar Nitto racks which have a more refined
finish.

I've got a bike with stainless dropouts, and I'd never ever consider using
stainless fasteners in those. It might be ok if the screw is coated

chrome-plated screws NItto supplies. On carbon steel dropouts, sure, but

If you get the VO, since it's stainless, you can easily have a local welder
weld a stainless headlight mount to it without worrying about destroying
the chrome plating and future rusting.
I have the larger VO porteur rack, and had a local welder weld a short

I second Patrick on the Albastache, definitely consider those. I like them
a lot on my Hunqapillar for trails, singletrack, and road. I've never had
