That looks fabulous so far, particularly the stem ornament. I am encouraged

I got a Nitto Pearl stem. Has less rise.
Also, the Tech Deluxe has less rise . 190mm quill, I think.

I'm sorta guessing that the reason they took the bag was because it

That makes perfect sense. I just cleaned it up with the hone. I didn't take
anything off. The butted steerer tubes I'd seen previously have been Columbus

The steerer is butted and it sounds like you have inserted the stem to the
transition. The butt is there to reinforce a highly-loaded part of the bike.
Don't try to turn it down.
Instead, seek ye a shorter-quill stem.

Thanks all. And, FYI, I had not yet done what I had planned to

Hi Leah! Of the wooden bike boxes I've seen out there, that one is a pretty
good looking one. I personally would forgo the included mounting hardware
and get a nice sturdy front rack to mount it on, either using xxl zip ties
or toe straps. A couple of Riv irish straps couple be a stylish option

IMO the porteur rack is far too versatile a rack to confine to only one method

Maybe not small zipties, but I just bought some huge heavy-duty ties from Ace
Hardware which might be strong enough. Toe straps are another thought..they're
pretty strong and you can pull them very tight. Whichever method you use, I
agree that mounting the crate on a rack is the way to go.
